The Impact You'll Make

The Senior Director, Store Front End Technology is responsible for the strategy, performance, modernization, and operational excellence of all customer-facing store technology across Loblaw's national retail network. This portfolio includes Point of Sale, Payments, Self-Checkout, Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL), Labels & Signs, Beauty technology solutions, and Store Technology Validation & Testing.

Reporting to the Vice President, Store and Merchandising Technology, the Senior Director will lead the vision and execution of front-end technology platforms that enable faster checkout experiences, reduce shrink, improve operational efficiency, and lower the total cost of ownership across thousands of stores. This role partners closely with Technology Platforms, Store Operations, Asset Protection, Merchandising, Finance, Digital, and external technology partners to deliver innovative, secure, scalable, and reliable solutions that improve the customer and colleague experience.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and execute the multi-year Store Front End Technology strategy aligned with Loblaw's business and technology priorities.
  • Define the technology roadmap for customer-facing store systems, balancing innovation, operational excellence, and business value.
  • Lead technology investment planning, prioritization, and portfolio governance across multiple product areas.
  • Partner with executive business leaders to identify opportunities to improve customer experience, reduce operating costs, and enable future retail capabilities.
  • Provide executive leadership for the Point of Sale, Payments, Electronic Shelf Labels, Labels & Signs, Beauty technology, and Store Technology Validation portfolios.
  • Drive modernization initiatives across front-end store platforms through cloud-enabled, API-first, and scalable technology solutions.
  • Ensure platforms integrate seamlessly with merchandising, pricing, inventory, loyalty, digital commerce, financial systems, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Establish technology roadmaps that improve platform resilience, maintainability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Deliver technology solutions that enable faster, simpler, and more reliable checkout experiences.
  • Partner with Asset Protection teams to implement technology that reduces shrink and strengthens transaction integrity.
  • Drive initiatives that reduce the total cost of ownership for store technology through platform simplification, automation, and lifecycle management.
  • Enable innovative customer experiences through modern payment technologies, self-checkout capabilities, digital pricing, and emerging retail solutions.
  • Lead the delivery of strategic technology initiatives from concept through deployment across the national store network.
  • Oversee enterprise testing and validation of all store technology solutions prior to production deployment to ensure quality, stability, and operational readiness.
  • Ensure robust release management, deployment planning, and change management practices minimize business disruption.
  • Champion continuous improvement in delivery practices, engineering quality, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, resilience, and security of all front-end store technology platforms.
  • Establish service level objectives and operational metrics that drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead incident management, vendor escalations, and recovery planning for critical store technology events.
  • Drive platform reliability while reducing operational complexity and support costs.
  • Build trusted partnerships with matrix teams within Loblaw Technology & Analytics and with business partners.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, Engineering, UX, Infrastructure, Cyber Security, and Data teams to deliver integrated enterprise solutions.
  • Develop strategic relationships with key technology vendors and partners to maximize innovation and business value.
  • Influence enterprise technology direction while ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Establish KPIs and executive reporting to measure platform health, customer outcomes, operational performance, and business value.
  • Ensure compliance with PCI standards, payment security requirements, privacy regulations, and corporate technology governance.
  • Drive technology risk management, vendor governance, lifecycle planning, and financial accountability across the portfolio.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, investment planning, and vendor contract management.
  • Lead and develop high-performing leaders and multidisciplinary technology teams across multiple portfolios.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, inclusion, continuous learning, and customer obsession.
  • Build organizational capability through coaching, succession planning, and talent development.
  • Champion agile ways of working while promoting collaboration across business and technology teams.


What You'll Bring
  • 12+ years of progressive experience leading enterprise retail technology, customer-facing platforms, or large-scale technology portfolios.
  • 7+ years of senior leadership experience managing enterprise technology organizations and cross-functional teams.
  • A passion for driving change without sacrificing operational stability and resilience
  • Proven success developing and executing technology strategy while delivering complex transformation programs.
  • Deep understanding of Point of Sale systems, payment technologies, self-checkout, and customer transaction platforms.
  • Experience leading Electronic Shelf Label (ESL), digital pricing, or other in-store retail technology solutions is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of modern technology architectures, including cloud platforms, APIs, event-driven integration, and enterprise application ecosystems.
  • Experience with PCI compliance, payment security, fraud prevention, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with business leaders to improve customer experience, reduce shrink, and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Strong financial management skills with experience managing large operating and capital budgets.
  • Proven experience managing strategic technology vendors, commercial negotiations, and enterprise partnerships.
  • Exceptional communication, executive stakeholder management, organizational leadership, and change management capabilities.
