What is the Opportunity?

The Senior Director, Responsible AI is responsible for orchestrating and coordinating the AI Group's communication strategy with regulators across multiple jurisdictions. This strategic leadership role ensures that all regulatory communications reflect RBC's commitment to responsible AI principles while maintaining consistency, integrity, and technical robustness across the organization. The role bridges internal stakeholder coordination across business units and functions with external regulatory engagement, and progressively evolves to include driving AI risk literacy and responsible AI education initiatives enterprise-wide.

What will you do?
  • Regulatory Coordination & StrategyInternal Stakeholder Alignment AI Risk Literacy and Education Employee Engagement & Inspiration Continuous Monitoring & Governance People Leadership & Development
    • Orchestrate and coordinate AI Group's regulatory communication strategy across different jurisdictions;
    • Develop messaging frameworks that align with RBC's Responsible AI principles;
    • Ensure all regulatory submissions and communications maintain technical accuracy and organizational consistency.
    • Coordinate with business units and functions across the bank to ensure consistent messaging to regulators;
    • Act as central point of liaison between AI Group and other departments with respect to regulatory engagements;
    • Resolve conflicts and ensure unified organizational voice in regulatory communications.
    • Partner with HR and Corporate Communications to develop and drive AI risk literacy programs across the bank;
    • Design and deliver training initiatives on responsible AI principles;
    • Create compelling content and educational materials that increase organizational AI fluency.
    • Develop and deliver storytelling-based communication initiatives to educate and inspire employees about RBC's Responsible AI principles;
    • Build organizational commitment to responsible AI practices;
    • Establish thought leadership on AI governance and responsible innovation.
    • Monitor regulatory landscape and emerging best practices;
    • Provide recommendations for evolution of RBC's Responsible AI framework;
    • Maintain documentation and reporting on regulatory engagement activities.


What will you need to succeed?
  • Regulatory Acumen - Deep understanding of financial regulatory frameworks across multiple jurisdictions; ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes; demonstrated success in regulatory engagement and submissions.
  • Technical Proficiency - Sufficient technical depth in risk management and technology to effectively communicate with regulators; ability to understand and articulate technical governance frameworks; fluency in AI/ML concepts and terminology.
  • Stakeholder Coordination - Exceptional ability to coordinate across diverse internal stakeholders; strong cross-functional leadership; experience managing competing priorities and building consensus.
  • Communication & Storytelling - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft compelling narratives that inspire organizational commitment; talent for distilling complex topics into clear, engaging messages.
  • Strategic Thinking - Ability to develop forward-looking regulatory and organizational strategies; capacity to anticipate emerging issues; strategic vision for responsible AI culture building.
  • Project Management - Strong ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously; experience developing and executing large-scale organizational programs; track record of delivering results on schedule.
  • Change Management - Experience driving organizational culture change; ability to influence without direct authority; skill in overcoming resistance to new initiatives.

Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Finance, Law, Computer Science, Risk Management, or equivalent professional experience)
  • 10+ years of professional experience in financial services, regulatory affairs, or risk management
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience liaising with financial regulators or regulatory bodies
  • Demonstrated experience in IT risk management, governance frameworks, or technology governance
  • 3+ years of people leadership and team management experience
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Track record of developing and implementing large-scale organizational communication or education initiatives
  • Experience working in matrix organizational environments and coordinating across multiple stakeholders


Nice to Have:
  • Professional certification in IT risk management (e.g. CISSP, CRISC)
  • MBA or advanced degree in Business, Technology, Law, or Risk Management
  • Certifications in AI governance, ethics, or responsible technology
  • Experience in financial regulatory bodies or supervisory roles
