Senior Director, Product Management - NA Detection, Alarm, and Suppression

Base Salary Rate: $234,014 - $275,310 per year

About This Role

Within our North America Residential Fire business, the Senior Director of Product Management will serve as the senior portfolio leader for Detection & Alarms and Suppression, owning product strategy, innovation, lifecycle management, and portfolio performance across these critical categories.
This leadership position is responsible for defining the product vision, building and leading a high-performing product organization, and delivering insight-driven innovation that strengthens home protection, expands category relevance, and drives profitable growth. The Senior Director will collaborate across functions to ensure product strategies are aligned with consumer and professional needs, market dynamics, regulatory and code requirements, channel priorities, and business objectives, shaping the future of Kidde's Detection, Alarms & Suppression portfolio in North America.
The role will also provide strategic direction and integrated input to adjacent capabilities that enable portfolio performance, including commercialization governance and consumer/professional insights. The Senior Director will be expected to set direction, clarify priorities, and ensure these inputs are integrated into portfolio strategy, roadmap execution, and launch readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Vision
- Develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy for the North America Detection, Alarms & Suppression portfolio.
- Define and articulate a clear product vision aligned with business priorities, customer needs, category trends, and long-term growth objectives.
- Own portfolio strategy across core Detection & Alarms, Suppression, and related product platforms, including where-to-play choices, innovation priorities, lifecycle decisions, and resource trade-offs.
- Conduct and synthesize market, category, consumer, professional, competitive, code, and channel insights to identify growth opportunities and portfolio risks.
- Partner with Consumer Insights, Commercial, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, and Finance to translate insights into prioritized innovation opportunities and product solutions.
Business Scope & Portfolio Leadership
- Lead product management for Detection & Alarms and Suppression, ensuring the portfolio is positioned to defend the core, grow strategically, improve margin, and meet evolving safety needs.
- Manage product portfolio health, including SKU strategy, roadmap prioritization, lifecycle actions, pricing/mix inputs, margin improvement opportunities, and category performance objectives.
- Establish decision frameworks that balance consumer value, professional requirements, code compliance, operational feasibility, financial impact, and speed to market.
- Provide senior leadership-level visibility to portfolio priorities, risks, trade-offs, and investment needs to support effective business decision-making.
Team Leadership
- Lead and set expectations for a high-performing product management team, fostering collaboration, innovation, accountability, and strong business ownership.
- Build and develop talent as a hands-on leader through coaching, feedback, succession planning, and professional development opportunities.
- Model and lead the team by example, taking action as a both leader and contributor to demonstrate product management discipline, rigor, execution, strategic thinking, cross-functional leadership, and consumer-first decision-making.
- Create a culture that combines customer empathy, analytical rigor, practical execution, and strong ownership of business outcomes.
Innovation & Roadmap Development
- Define and manage product portfolios, roadmaps, feature sets, product marketing inputs, and lifecycle plans across Detection, Alarms & Suppression.
- Set innovation strategy, timing, sequencing, and prioritization in alignment with business goals, category strategy, operational capacity, and market requirements.
- Oversee new product launches from ideation through post-launch analysis, ensuring clear business cases, requirements, value propositions, and execution plans.
- Partner with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Regulatory/Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless execution from concept through commercialization.
- Drive clarity on platform strategies, technology choices, make/buy decisions, and capability gaps needed to support the future portfolio.
Commercialization Governance & Integrated Execution
- Provide strategic input and/or direction to commercialization governance to ensure innovation priorities translate into disciplined launch execution, cross-functional readiness, and timely decision-making.
- Partner with the Commercialization Governance leader to strengthen launch processes, stage-gate discipline, milestone tracking, risk escalation, resource visibility, and post-launch learning.
- Ensure portfolio strategy, roadmap priorities, and launch governance are connected so the organization can make faster, clearer trade-off decisions.
Insights, Market Intelligence & Customer Understanding
- Ensure consumer, professional, channel, competitive, and category insights are consistently translated into product strategy, roadmap prioritization, and innovation choices.
- Provide direction to insights workstreams and research priorities, including problem definition, learning agendas, concept validation, portfolio opportunity sizing, and post-launch performance learning.
- Champion evidence-based decision-making while balancing data with practical judgment, customer empathy, and speed of execution.
Performance Management & Analysis
- Establish and track KPIs to measure product performance, portfolio health, innovation success, launch effectiveness, and lifecycle outcomes.
- Monitor product profitability, market share, category performance, consumer adoption, customer feedback, quality indicators, and competitive position.
- Provide data-driven insights to guide portfolio decisions, investment choices, resource allocation, and performance improvement actions.
- Communicate performance, risks, and recommendations clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive product management, portfolio leadership, or related category/business leadership experience, with a track record of successful product launches, lifecycle management, and business performance delivery.
- Bachelor's degree

- Leadership: Strong senior-level leadership and team development capabilities, with experience leading managers and influencing cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to define long-term portfolio strategy, make clear trade-offs, and align product direction with business objectives, customer needs, and financial outcomes.
- Portfolio & Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to manage complex portfolios, assess market attractiveness, prioritize investments, evaluate margin/growth trade-offs, and drive profitable growth.
- Execution Discipline: Strong understanding of commercialization, launch governance, integrated business planning, stage-gate processes, and cross-functional execution requirements.
- Analytical Skills: Proficient in leveraging data, insights, financial analysis, and market intelligence to drive decision-making and product strategy.
- Communication: Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders, simplify complex trade-offs, and present recommendations clearly.
- Adaptability: Comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at navigating evolving market, organizational, technical, and customer priorities.
Compensation and Benefits
