Full Job Description

The Senior Director, Product Management is a highly senior hybrid people manager role and individual contributor and a member of the Product Leadership team, responsible for setting strategy, driving execution, and delivering measurable business outcomes across a portfolio of interdependent, foundational platform product domains at Commerce. Reporting to the SVP of Product, AI & Feedonomics, this role owns the full lifecycle — P&L, product strategy, development, alpha, beta, GA, and successful ongoing adoption — of the products in their portfolio, working cross-functionally to ensure these foundational services are leveraged effectively by internal teams to take key products to market. This role operates at the intersection of product strategy, cross-platform alignment, and organizational leadership — owning end-to-end decision rights across multiple domains, establishing governance and planning models for complex multi-team initiatives, and serving as a key voice of Product in executive and cross-functional forums. This role operates as a peer-level collaborator to senior product and engineering leaders across the Commerce portfolio.

What You’ll Do

Portfolio & Remit:

This Senior Director will own a portfolio of foundational platform products — APIs, documentation, and infrastructure — that are leveraged by internal teams to take key products to market. The portfolio will initially include:

Data & Analytics Platform, APIs and Customer Facing Analytics Offerings — Oversight of the Data & Analytics platform and APIs that power the analytics product offerings across the BigCommerce B2C, BigCommerce B2B, Feedonomics, and Makeswift platforms. This includes the customer facing analytics offerings as well as the unified data pipeline that powers all Commerce product data for customer experiences across Catalog, Inventory, Orders, Customers, Pricing, Payments, Auth, Billing, Subscription, Integrations, and Channel. This is a foundational service providing APIs, MCP, CLI, and documentation for both internal teams and external parties (customers and partners) to leverage this infrastructure and deliver the necessary experiences for: (1) customer-facing analytics dashboards; (2) agentic assistant experiences that leverage this data; and (3) internal business dashboards for both business adoption of products and product onboarding / utilization.

Enterprise Search Platform — Ownership of the Enterprise Search Platform that powers Semantic, Conversational, and Faceted Search for both products and content within a merchant's catalog and storefront. This foundational service is also the foundation for performant agent assistants offered to our merchants and their shoppers, with the capability to semantically query a merchant's catalog and content within a storefront experience or an agent experience.

Unified Auth, Entitlement & Billing Services — Ownership of the Commerce company-level Unified Auth and Entitlement Service that enables the account to have clear entitlement for product and usage levels, plan details, and features based on their paid allocation / plan level, along with the Subscription and Usage-Based Billing platform.

In addition, this role will own the platform-level relationship with Google Cloud from a product point of view, coordinating with the various relevant Product Managers internally at Commerce as well as with our partner, product and engineering counterparts at Google Cloud, Google Shopping, Google Merchant Center, and Google UCP, GECX and Infrastructure teams, to help support our various initiatives with Google.

The industry and company face exciting change and opportunity.  This role, in turn, will evolve and specific components of the portfolio will change from time to time.  The above are starting/entry points of contribution and this senior role consistently and proactively identifies and takes on new opportunities to create value for our customers and shareholders.  This start-up hustle, curiosity, proactiveness, and ability to create opportunity from ambiguity is essential to this role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No. This is an individual contributor role. However, employees in this role are expected to mentor and coach more junior Product Managers within the assigned portfolio, supporting their professional development and contributing to a strong product management culture at Commerce.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end portfolio accountability — including P&L, product strategy, development, Alpha, beta, GA, and successful ongoing adoption — across multiple interdependent foundational platform domains, ensuring cohesion across teams, platforms, and commercial priorities

  • Own portfolio-level strategy, roadmap, and delivery accountability, working cross-functionally to ensure foundational platform services are successfully adopted and leveraged by internal teams to take key products to market

  • Define and maintain clear decision rights for platform evolution, deprecation strategy, and product modernization across assigned domains — reducing fragmentation and accelerating adoption.

  • Establish and operate cross-team governance models, planning cadences, and dependency management frameworks for portfolio-wide initiatives

  • Translate business priorities into sequenced, multi-phase product strategies with clear investment rationale, tradeoffs, and success criteria

  • Establish and champion portfolio-wide Definition of Ready and Definition of Done standards, ensuring consistent requirements quality and delivery predictability across all product teams.

  • Ensure PMs across the portfolio are operating effectively as the customer proxy during development — setting the expectation and model for real-time engineering partnership and tradeoff ownership

  • Own the P&L for the portfolio; build and present quantified business cases to secure senior leadership alignment, protect revenue, and prioritize portfolio investment — including gross merchandise value (GMV), annual recurring revenue (ARR), and monthly recurring revenue (MRR) impact modeling

  • Own key performance indicator (KPI) frameworks across the portfolio; deliver regular updates to senior and executive leadership on performance, tradeoffs, and strategic progress

  • Drive alignment across global Product and Engineering stakeholders, coordinating delivery across large, complex, multi-team programs with many dependencies

  • Partner with peer product and engineering leaders across Commerce's brand portfolio to ensure cross-platform strategy alignment and shared execution accountability

  • Serve as a member of the Product Leadership team and a Product representative in executive and senior leadership forums, contributing to organizational strategy and representing the product perspective on business-critical decisions

  • Champion developer and operator experience as a competitive differentiator at the platform level, with a focus on API quality, reliability, and adoption

  • Lead adoption of AI-native workflows and modern product operating practices across the product management organization, increasing team leverage and execution velocity

  • Mentor and coach Product Managers and Lead Product Managers within the portfolio, supporting their growth, sharing best practices, and contributing to a high-performing product management culture

  • Support commercial outcomes including renewal conversations, regional expansion efforts, and customer-facing roadmap communication in partnership with Sales and Customer Success

  • Own the platform-level relationship with Google Cloud from a product point of view, coordinating with the relevant Google Cloud, Shopping, Merchant Center, and Infrastructure teams to help support our various initiatives with Google

  • Travel up to 30% as business needs require, including representation at Leadership Summits, monthly onsite planning at Commerce HQ in Austin, and in-person travel as a Product Leadership team member to partners

Who Are You

  • Proven ability to set and execute multi-domain product strategy, operating with autonomy across a portfolio of technically complex and commercially significant product areas

  • Demonstrated experience owning a product P&L and managing the full product lifecycle from strategy and development through Alpha, beta, GA, and sustained adoption

  • Strong technical fluency across platform architecture, APIs, data pipelines, search/semantic systems, and auth/entitlement/billing systems; able to engage credibly with engineering leadership on architectural decisions and tradeoffs

  • Demonstrated ability to build quantified business cases and influence investment decisions at the senior and executive leadership level

  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills; able to align global Product, Engineering, Design, and Go-to-Market (GTM) stakeholders across time zones and organizational boundaries

  • Exceptional executive communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to translate complex technical and strategic concepts for senior audiences with precision and clarity

  • Deep analytical capability; comfortable owning KPI frameworks and using performance data to drive portfolio-level prioritization and tradeoff decisions.

  • Experience establishing governance structures, operating models, and planning cadences for large, multi-team product programs

  • Experience building or owning foundational/platform products (APIs, infrastructure, developer tooling) consumed by both internal teams and external customers and partners

  • Demonstrated ability to develop product management talent through mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing across teams

  • Experience driving AI-native workflows and modern product operating practices at a team or organizational level

  • Proficiency with AI tools in a professional context, including Claude and ChatGPT

  • Ability to operate effectively across global teams and time zones, including engagement with regional commercial and product stakeholder

  • 12+ years of product management experience, including at least 5 years operating at a senior individual contributor or people management level across complex, multi-domain product portfolios

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering platform-level or enterprise product strategies that drive significant, quantified business outcomes including revenue growth, retention, and platform adoption

  • Experience owning end-to-end portfolio accountability including P&L, strategy, full-lifecycle execution, cross-team governance, and executive stakeholder management

  • Experience in e-commerce, SaaS, or platform technology is strongly preferred

  • Experience working within a multi-brand or multi-product company structure is a plus

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. This role requires travel up to 30%, including representation at Leadership Summits, monthly onsite planning at Commerce HQ in Austin, and in-person travel to meet with customers and partners, as a Product Leadership team member and ambassador of the Commerce team.
