Full Job Description
Role, responsibility, and reporting

The Sr. Director of Engineering will lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team (40+) responsible for both people management and project execution. Most of your time will be focused on project execution. In this role you will lead a team focused on developing new products by working closely with the Product Management team on customer-focused solutions. The Sr. Director of Engineering reports to the Vice President of NPD and Innovation Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • 15+ years of experience in delivering customer focused solutions and products at volume (areas of relevance are robotics, IoT, mechanical, embedded systems, and electronics)
  • Experience in managing large global engineering engineers from multiple disciplines executing a diverse set of projects
  • Develop and mature modern processes that drive effective execution while ensuring reliable products
  • Ability to motivate people and create a safe work environment
  • Excellent communication skills across organizational levels
  • Ability to think wholistic and contribute to strategic planning
  • Familiar with Project Management concepts
  • Demonstrates business-oriented acumen


Key Responsibilities

Line/People Management (~20% of your time)

  • Provide mentoring and coaching to your team
  • Conduct effective 1:1s, feedback, performance assessments
  • Own hiring, onboarding, and succession planning for your team
  • Encourage subject matter sharing and facilitate training
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement


Project Execution (~80% of your time)

  • Leads a multi-disciplinary group of engineers to develop HW solutions from concept to delivery
  • Work closely with Product Management to understand the customer needs and develop solutions that meet or exceed expectations within time and budget constraints
  • Promote a culture of execution and engineering discipline
  • Evaluate potential solutions for compatibility with system requirements by working across teams and cultures to align strategies and goals to existing and future AutoStore systems
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and look for ways to improve teams and systems at AutoStore
  • Develop and track associated KPIs
