Minimum qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- 15 years of experience in software engineering leadership
Preferred qualifications: - Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform or other major cloud provider
- Experience developing and operating large-scale infrastructure systems
- Experience in effectively dealing with customer escalations and driving resolutions to complex technical issues
About the jobGoogle Compute Engine (GCE) is at the heart of Google Cloud, providing the foundational compute power for countless customers, including those running demanding AI/ML and enterprise workloads. The Core Virtualization team is the engine driving GCE's performance, security, and innovation. As the Director of Engineering for GCE Core Virtualization, you will lead the teams responsible for the core hypervisor, memory management, live update capabilities, virtualization security, and the burgeoning Axion ARM-based compute business.
This is a critical leadership role where you will shape the future of GCE's virtualization stack, ensuring it remains the most performant, scalable, and secure public cloud offering. You will work on complex technical challenges in low-level systems, drive strategic architectural evolution, enhance security posture against sophisticated threats, and deliver features that minimize disruption for our most demanding customers. Responsibilities - Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers, driving the development and execution of GCE's technical roadmap.
- Own and enhance the security posture of the GCE Virtualization stack. Drive strategic security investments, oversee mitigation efforts for vulnerabilities and emerging threats, and collaborate with security teams across Google.
- Lead the virtualization stack to deliver industry-leading performance, scalability, and reliability, meeting the stringent demands of workloads including large-scale AI/ML and mission-critical enterprise applications.
- Oversee the engineering execution for the ARM instance portfolio, and collaborate with product management and customers to drive adoption and business growth.
- Ensure the smooth operation of the virtualization stack, manage customer escalations related to virtualization or security, and drive continuous improvement in operational excellence and quality.
