The Impact You'll Make:

The Senior Director, National Health & Safety leads the enterprise Health & Safety strategy to protect colleagues, strengthen organizational capability, and embed a high-performing safety culture across Loblaw. By partnering with executive leaders and influencing enterprise-wide decisions, this role drives operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement to reduce risk and enable business performance.

This is a transformational role leading a national team of Health & Safety professionals, the Senior Director partners closely with Operations, Human Resources, Labour Relations, Legal, Asset Protection and Executive Leadership to drive continuous improvement, influence business strategy and ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial Occupational Health & Safety legislation.

What You'll Do:

Strategic Leadership
  • Lead the development and execution of Loblaw's enterprise Health & Safety strategy, driving a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with executive leaders to embed Health & Safety into business decisions while ensuring compliance with evolving legislation and industry best practices.

Training & Organizational Capability
  • Build enterprise Health & Safety capability by leading the learning strategy, training framework, and leadership development programs that strengthen safety culture and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by partnering across the business to address capability gaps and evolve training programs based on performance, colleague feedback, and emerging legislative and industry trends.

Enterprise Governance & Compliance
  • Provide executive oversight of the enterprise Health & Safety governance framework, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial legislation, effective governance structures, and consistent standards across all business units.
  • Lead enterprise regulatory and risk management strategies by overseeing inspections, investigations, enforcement matters, and contractor safety programs in partnership with Legal, Labour Relations, and business leaders.

Operational Excellence & Risk Management
  • Provide executive oversight of enterprise incident management, audits, investigations, and critical injury response to drive operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Leverage performance metrics, analytics, and enterprise Health & Safety programs to strengthen risk management, improve outcomes, and ensure consistent execution across the organization.

Business Partnership
  • Build trusted partnerships with Operations, Human Resources, Labour Relations, Legal and Asset Protection.
  • Influence executive decisions through strategic advice on enterprise risk and compliance and represent Loblaw with regulators and external stakeholders.

People Leadership
  • Build and lead a high-performing, inclusive Health & Safety team by coaching, mentoring, and developing future leaders while strengthening organizational capability and succession.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement by empowering leaders, challenging conventional thinking, and driving organizational change.

Governance & Financial Management
  • Establish enterprise Health & Safety performance measures and provide executive reporting that informs decision-making, identifies emerging risks, and drives continuous improvement.
  • Lead financial stewardship through strategic budget, resource, vendor, and investment management to deliver measurable business value and operational outcomes.


What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and progressive leadership experience.
  • CRSP designation preferred. Other relevant professional designations (e.g., CHSC, P.Eng., CIH) are considered assets.
  • Proven progressive Health & Safety leadership experience, including leading leaders within a large, complex, multi-site organization.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide Health & Safety strategy, regulatory compliance, governance, and transformational change.
  • Experience in a unionized retail, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similarly complex operational environment.
  • Strong executive presence with exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and influencing skills.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.


Hiring Range / Échelle salariale à l'embauche :
