This Senior Director sets the creative and technical direction for North America store design, raising the bar on quality, craft, fixture innovation, and premium guest experience across the lululemon fleet. The role balances concept excellence with retail-at-scale execution, leading a large team and external partner network through ambiguity, changing priorities, and complex cross-functional decision-making.

a day in the life: what you'll do
  • Lead store design and planning for all North America new store openings, renovations, special projects, and brand activations, partnering closely with Retail Operations, Store Development, Brand Marketing, Merchandising, and Planning.
  • Own relationships with a portfolio of architecture and design partners, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of brand expression and guest experience.
  • Set the creative and technical vision for North America store design, elevating quality, materiality, fixture design, and the premium feel of lululemon retail environments.
  • Lead the end-to-end design process from concept development through construction and post-opening review, ensuring both design excellence and operational feasibility.
  • Partner closely with Global teams to translate design principles into regionally relevant solutions while contributing North America insights that help shape and evolve future global concepts.
  • Define and continuously improve the guest journey through store layout, navigation, product storytelling, fitting rooms, service experiences, and omnichannel touchpoints.
  • Drive large-scale design rollouts across the North American fleet, balancing elevated creative vision with operational excellence, speed to market, and scalable execution.
  • Develop and maintain scalable design standards, fixture programs, material palettes, and toolkits that enable consistent execution across new stores, renovations, pop-ups, flagships, and experiential formats.
  • Partner with Real Estate, Construction, Procurement, Finance, Retail Operations, Visual Merchandising, Brand, and external agencies to deliver commercially successful and operationally effective stores.
  • Establish and uphold design quality standards by reviewing drawings, fixtures, materials, prototypes, and site conditions to ensure alignment with brand, budget, and local requirements.
  • Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of store design professionals and external partners, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous development while delivering results across a complex portfolio of projects.
  • Champion innovative and nimble approaches to design challenges, finding practical solutions that move the business forward while challenging the status quo.
  • Leverage guest, educator, operational, and business insights to continuously evolve store concepts, design standards, and future rollout strategies.
qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in retail store design, architecture, or interior design for a consumer-focused global brand.
  • 10+ years of experience leading store design teams, with a proven track record of building high-performing organizations and mentoring, coaching, and inspiring top talent to deliver exceptional results.
  • Strategic, creative, and people-focused leader with the ability to influence senior executives, including CEO, President, and Board-level audiences, supported by strong business and financial acumen.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, collaboration, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to partner effectively across global and regional teams and operate successfully within complex matrixed organizations.
  • Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and commitment to developing talent, fostering high-performing teams, and creating an inclusive culture.
  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent; NCIDQ and/or LEED accreditation considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office; experience with Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, V-Ray, or other visualization tools is an asset.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating elevated creative vision, premium retail design, spatial storytelling, fixture development, technical excellence, and successful execution across multiple store formats at scale.
  • Deep understanding of guest experience, visual merchandising, store planning, retail construction, building codes, accessibility requirements, sustainability, and operational performance.
  • Proven success leading large-scale retail design rollouts, managing complex portfolios, and balancing creative ambition with business, operational, and financial objectives.
  • Experience working within global and regional design models, adapting global concepts for local markets while maintaining brand consistency and governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, challenge conventional thinking, and develop innovative solutions in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

compensation and benefits package

lululemon's compensation offerings are grounded in a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes exceptional individual and teamperformance. Thetypical hiring range for this position is from$202,700 - $266,100 annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program and equity offerings, subject to program eligibility requirements.
