Full Job Description

Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?

Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.

The Senior Director, Marketing - Germline Portfolio, is a visionary leader responsible for the strategic direction, brand development, and commercial success of the company’s hereditary cancer testing (HCT) and germline portfolio. This role oversees the commercial lifecycle of hereditary screening tools, ensuring they deliver medically actionable insights that empower patients and clinicians to manage cancer risk proactively. You will bridge the gap between technical NGS development and high-impact commercial execution, leading the innovation of market-facing narratives for high-penetrance genes and expanded panels.

Location: Chicago, New York, Redwood City. Hybrid-Remote (Tues, Wed, Thurs).

Responsibilities

  • Differentiated Positioning & Narrative Execution: Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial roadmap for the germline portfolio, with a particular emphasis on hereditary cancer and rare disease testing at the point-of-care (in-clinic use cases). Own the overarching narrative to ensure the market understands our unique value proposition in VUS resolution and family-member testing programs.

  • Downstream Commercial Strategy: Drive product positioning, messaging, and go-to-market (GTM) strategies. Lead the development of physician marketing, patient-advocacy engagement, and digital clinician portals to streamline genetic counseling workflows.

  • Sales Enablement & Training: Partner deeply with Sales and Learning & Development (L&D) to equip the field organization with high-impact materials and aligned messaging to maximize clinical adoption.

  • Cross-Functional Synergy: Act as a bridge between R&D, Medical Affairs, and Laboratory Operations to ensure marketing strategies remain scientifically accurate and comply with regulatory requirements (FDA, CLIA, CAP).

  • Followership Over Mandate: You possess the organic authority and humility to listen deeply, collaborate cross-functionally, and rally multiple departments behind a unified marketing vision.

  • Low Ego, High Impact: You view marketing as a team sport, working seamlessly with technical, medical, and sales peers to turn growth strategy into commercial success without needing to own the entire upstream architecture.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences required; MBA, MS in Genetic Counseling, or PhD preferred to bridge the gap between complex science and business strategy.

  • Experience: 10+ years of direct marketing experience in healthcare or life sciences, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on oncology, advanced diagnostics, or germline genetics.

  • Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows, cancer genomics, and the evolving landscape of hereditary cancer testing.

  • AI-First Mindset: Practical familiarity with utilizing or operationalizing digital tools and modern AI-driven workflows to enhance the customer experience and marketing efficiency.

U.S. Pay Range: $190,000 -$260,000

The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
