Job Summary Directs the investigation, management and proper resolution of liability claims and professional and general liability litigation to reduce the risk of financial loss for the Company. Acts as a consultant on legal issues for other Department members.
Essential Functions - Analyzes and summarizes claims information and makes recommendations to management and Liability Claims Committee regarding defense and claim resolution strategy.
- Provides counsel on liability claims issues to field employees regarding investigation, reporting and general handling of liability claims issues.
- Develops defense strategies on particular cases with outside counsel, as necessary.
- Negotiates claims and litigation settlements with plaintiffs or plaintiff attorneys.
- Updates and occasionally negotiates with outside insurers on liability claims issues and potential exposure.
- Attends mediations, arbitrations, mock trials and jury trials to ensure that cases are resolved in the best possible manner.
- Assists other Support Center departments and management on liability claims issues affecting them.
- Attends Liability Claims seminars and industry meetings concerning healthcare litigation trends and issues.

QualificationsEducation - Juris Doctor degree
- In lieu of a juris doctorate, 5 years of increasing experience in a professional liability claims setting with responsibilities matching Essential Functions below.
Licenses/Certifications Experience - 3 years experience with medical malpractice claim management, negotiations, general insurance, or civil litigation.
