ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Senior Market Area Director, Laboratory Services will serve as the key administrative leader in coordinate key laboratory initiatives with Market Chief Executive leaders, with direct oversight of multiple laboratories. This position will be in constant collaboration with system and Division organizational leadership in developing and implementing laboratory performance improvement within the service area.

The Senior Market Area Director, Laboratory Services in concert with the Division Executive Director Clinical Lab provides strategic leadership as well as financial and operational management and direction to the laboratories within the market area.

Attributes critical to success include the ability to make difficult decisions in the context of the political, regulatory, and economic environment and consistent with the overall system strategy he/she is accountable for developing, implementing, and managing a matrix business model that supports the Market Area, Division, and System Strategic Goals for an integrated healthcare delivery system. The Service Area Director will work in a dyad relationship, with administrative oversight for Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Laboratory Services to guide the comprehensive, strategic, and tactical planning and operations of all laboratory services across the Service Area.

The position of Senior Market Area Director, Laboratory requires experience developing and implementing both short and long range business plans, coordinating service area with system strategies, analyzing and managing financial performance, maintaining positive physician relationships and coordinating all laboratory services to ensure optimal synergies of service, quality and affordability. The Senior Market Director must be able to navigate politics without becoming paralyzed by them thereby delaying critical decisions; he/she must be a change advocate who is able to sell the future vision of the Division and System of Laboratories strategy presented in the Reducing Clinical Variation (RCV) vision.

Initial focus of the Senior Market Director, Laboratory Services will be to work with the Division Executive Director for Clinical Lab to implement changes within the Market Area consistent with the parameters and goals developed as part of the of the RCV laboratory initiative. Long term responsibilities include ongoing financial and operational guidance to Chief Executive Leaders and ministry Leaders.
• Coordinating with the Division Executive Director Clinical Lab for implementation activities for transforming laboratory services within the market area.• Collaborate with senior leadership in the Market Area and Division for long range strategic planning activities promoting excellence, maximizing system integration in clinical practice, improving the patient care experience and enhancing the value proposition of delivered services.• Provides operational leadership and is accountable for overall finance and operations of Laboratory Services, and process efficiencies compared against industry best practices to improve quality of care, increase customer service, patient satisfaction and support Providence St Joseph Health's mission. Implement practices to achieve productivity and efficiency consistent with Division and System goals.• Establishes organizational structures and management systems to achieve strategic and tactical goals for delivery of laboratory services in the service area in support of the system lab strategy.• Directs Laboratory services in alignment with the system lab strategy, current clinical guidelines, utilization trends, cost efficiency, and payer reimbursement.• Develops and implements new integration and growth strategies and initiatives consistent with lab system strategy including quality, fiscal management, compliance, reimbursement and physician support. Fosters structures and programs necessary to maintain and continuously improve delivery of quality Laboratory Services across the service area delivery system.• Ensures System Lab and Clinical Programs short and long term strategic plan for laboratory services within the Service Area are fully implemented, positioning lab resources for optimal service and new technological advancement.• Recommends and pursues administrative and process simplification designed to reduce waste, re-work and redundancy at the Service Area level.• Works closely with Division and System Lab Leadership to ensure efficiency, collaboration and alignment.• Collaborates with CMO and partners with medical staff and physician leadership to develop and strengthen relationships in the service area in order to align with Division strategies around laboratory initiatives.• Ensures a high level of service and support to physicians and other clinicians by knowing and understanding medical and staff issues, priorities and designing services to meet needs optimally. Works collaboratively with medical and clinical staff to provide appropriate operations environment necessary for optimum physician practice, clinical decision making and quality clinical outcomes.• Regularly reports to Division Executive Director Clinical Lab on established key financial indicators related to laboratory strategy, including: plans to achieve indicators, and to reduce gaps from expected performance.• In collaboration with Regional Finance, oversees the financial and capital needs for the Service Area Laboratory Services. Responsible for the administration of capital budgets in alignment with Division strategic direction to ensure financial health of the service area laboratories.• Ensures adherence to laboratory KPI targets and financial performance forecasts.• Implements workforce changes as required by Division Lab strategy in collaboration with local Human Resource partners.•
Actively supports and incorporates the mission and core values into daily activities.
