Sr. Manager Technology Financial Reporting

The Role

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Manager to lead financial management, reporting, governance, and analytics across Scotiabank's Technology portfolio. Reporting to the Enterprise Delivery Office (EDO), this role provides financial leadership and oversight for strategic technology investments, including technology transformation, Software Currency, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity, and enterprise remediation programs.

This role delivers accurate, timely, and well-controlled financial insights that enable Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Technology leaders, and Finance partners to strengthen governance, forecasting, and strategic decision-making. As a proactive people leader, you will guide a cross-functional reporting and analytics team while serving as a trusted advisor to senior executives, ensuring alignment between strategic technology investments and business objectives.

The successful candidate will bring strong financial management expertise, advanced analytical capabilities, executive communication skills, and experience operating within complex technology delivery environments.

What Will You Do?

Financial Planning, Forecasting & Analysis
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across technology portfolios and strategic programs.
  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Perform variance analysis, cost-to-complete forecasting, and financial modelling to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Support month-end and quarter-end financial close processes.
  • Provide financial recommendations that support portfolio investment and funding decisions.

Program Financial Management
  • Maintain end-to-end financial oversight of technology projects, portfolios, and funding allocations.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditures, accruals, invoice approvals, budget reconciliations, and financial controls.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of technology modernization, Software Currency, infrastructure, cybersecurity, remediation, and decommissioning costs.
  • Identify potential budget overruns and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure alignment between portfolio funding, financial plans, and technology delivery objectives.

Financial Reporting & Governance
  • Own end-to-end CIO and technology portfolio financial reporting, ensuring outputs are accurate, complete, timely, and decision-ready.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and executive financial reporting packages and governance materials.
  • Oversee reconciliation across SIP reporting, funding envelopes, portfolio reporting, and enterprise financial reporting views.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for portfolio financial reporting and governance inquiries.
  • Support benefits realization reporting, KPI tracking, and portfolio performance measurement.

Data, Tools & Automation
  • Govern and enhance financial data extracts, reporting processes, and automation solutions.
  • Ensure financial data integrity, consistency, reconciliation, and reporting accuracy across multiple sources.
  • Utilize and optimize reporting solutions using Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, CA PPM, and other enterprise reporting platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to automate reporting processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to financial data management and reporting capabilities.

Dashboards & Insights
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards that transform portfolio financial data into actionable executive insights.
  • Develop reporting metrics and visualizations that support governance and decision-making.
  • Provide detailed financial analyses, trends, forecasts, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Deliver executive-level reporting that enhances transparency across strategic technology investments.

Governance, Controls & Compliance
  • Ensure financial activities comply with Bank policies, internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Support internal and external audits through documentation, reporting validation, and financial evidence.
  • Oversee capital versus operating expense classifications and related reporting requirements.
  • Identify exceptions to policies, controls, and procedures and escalate as required.
  • Promote effective and efficient operations aligned with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and operational risk expectations.

Stakeholder Partnership & Team Enablement
  • Partner with Enterprise Delivery Office CIO Representatives, Finance, Delivery Managers, Program Managers, Technology Leads, Procurement, Risk, and Operations teams.
  • Facilitate forecasting, accrual, budget, and reporting discussions with key stakeholders.
  • Resolve reporting and financial data issues while continuously improving reporting outcomes.
  • Present financial updates, risks, recommendations, and strategic insights to senior executives and governance forums.
  • Lead and develop team capability through coaching, mentorship, knowledge sharing, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.

What Do You Need To Succeed?

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation is considered an asset.

Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in financial management, FP&A, financial reporting, analytics, or technology portfolio governance.
  • 5+ years supporting large-scale technology portfolios, enterprise transformation programs, or strategic investment initiatives.
  • Proven experience managing budgets and financial reporting for complex technology programs.
  • Strong experience in forecasting, budgeting, accrual management, financial analysis, reconciliation, and executive reporting.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with executive stakeholders and senior technology leaders.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience within a Canadian banking or financial services environment is preferred.

Technical Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong financial modelling and business analysis capabilities.
  • Power BI dashboard design and reporting expertise.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills for executive reporting and presentations.
  • Experience with CA Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools.
  • Experience working with financial systems, portfolio management tools, and reporting platforms.
  • Experience with Alteryx for data preparation and workflow automation is considered an asset.
