Responsibilities:
Lead the design of comprehensive strategies for enterprise database systems establishing architectural standards and governance frameworks across 350+ facilities
Design and construct large-scale relational databases supporting mission-critical CA operations for 40,000+ users worldwide, developing data models, schema designs, and indexing strategies
Design comprehensive server and storage filer infrastructure leveraging modern technologies including software-defined storage, all-flash arrays, and cloud storage solutions
Design enterprise backup services including off-site redundant backup storage, geographically distributed backup repositories, and comprehensive audit processes ensuring data protection
Integrate new database systems with existing infrastructure ensuring seamless interoperability and optimal system performance while supporting modernization initiatives
Design backup and restoration infrastructure utilizing modern platforms including Oracle RMAN, enterprise backup solutions, and cloud backup services
Lead coordination with DT via DT/EA/CST governance forums ensuring all DNS implementations, database naming conventions, and network configurations conform to DOS infrastructure standards
Develop comprehensive database architecture documentation including entity-relationship diagrams, data flow diagrams, architecture decision records, and design specifications
Conduct database architecture reviews, performance assessments, and capacity planning analysis for existing and proposed database systems
Serve as technical expert and mentor for database teams, providing architectural guidance on complex database challenges and driving innovation in database technologies
Qualifications:
Required –
Bachelor's degree + 8 years of experience in related fields, such as database architecture, database administration, data architecture, enterprise architecture, or database engineering at enterprise scale; equivalencies considered.
Active Secret Clearance
Proven experience with enterprise-scale database architecture, designing large relational databases, and developing database strategies for complex, distributed environments supporting 10,000+ users
Demonstrated leadership experience managing complex database architecture projects, leading technical teams, and coordinating architecture initiatives across distributed enterprise environments
Expert-level proficiency with relational database management systems including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL with deep understanding of database architecture principles
Excellent leadership abilities with proven experience planning and leading database architecture initiatives, functioning as a subject matter expert, and supervising database teams
Desired –
Prior experience supporting federal agencies, especially the Department of State
Advanced professional certifications such as Oracle Certified Master (OCM), Oracle Database Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
Expertise in Oracle Exadata engineered systems, Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server Always On architectures, and cloud database platforms (Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database)

Pay Range:
There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
