Job Summary
The Senior Data Engineer / Power BI Developer will transform complex data into scalable, interactive, and actionable business intelligence solutions by combining advanced Power BI development with hands-on Databricks, Python, SQL, and enterprise data platform expertise. The role will manage the full analytics lifecycle, from gathering business requirements and analyzing source data through data transformation, semantic modeling, and dashboard delivery. The position will help modernize fragmented reporting environments, reduce spreadsheet and manual-process dependency, and provide trusted insights for operational and strategic decision-making while bridging business and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Gather and translate business requirements into scalable analytics and reporting solutions.
• Analyze source data and transform datasets for business intelligence and reporting use cases.
• Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and data solutions.
• Build and optimize Power BI solutions using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
• Develop DAX and Power Query solutions for data transformation and analytical requirements.
• Design dimensional and semantic data models that support scalable reporting.
• Implement and manage row-level security and Power BI workspaces.
• Optimize report performance, refresh schedules, and deployment processes.
• Develop Databricks notebooks and Databricks SQL solutions using Delta Lake and lakehouse architecture.
• Perform data transformation and preparation within Databricks and integrate Databricks data with Power BI.
• Use Python, pandas, and PySpark for data analysis, transformation, validation, and automation.
• Develop complex SQL queries using joins, CTEs, aggregations, and window functions while optimizing query performance.
• Integrate data from APIs, relational databases, enterprise applications, and flat-file sources.
• Develop and automate recurring reporting and data-preparation workflows.
• Validate data, develop KPIs, and ensure reporting accuracy and usability.
• Analyze data and communicate meaningful business insights to stakeholders.
• Collaborate with business, analytics, data engineering, and infrastructure teams.
• Support modernization and consolidation of fragmented reporting environments and redundant dashboards.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, Power BI development, or a related discipline.
• Advanced hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, including Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
• Strong DAX and Power Query skills.
• Strong experience with semantic modeling and dimensional data modeling.
• Experience with row-level security, workspace management, report performance optimization, refresh scheduling, and deployment.
• Strong hands-on Databricks experience, including Databricks notebooks, Databricks SQL, Delta Lake or lakehouse architecture, and data transformation.
• Experience integrating Databricks with Power BI.
• Strong Python skills for data analysis, transformation, validation, and automation.
• Experience using pandas and/or PySpark with large and complex datasets.
• Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, CTEs, aggregations, window functions, and query optimization.
• Experience with Snowflake, data lakes, cloud-based data platforms, or enterprise data warehouses.
• Experience integrating data from APIs, relational databases, enterprise applications, and flat files.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data validation, KPI development, and reporting architecture.
• Experience automating recurring reporting and data-preparation workflows.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate meaningful business insights.
• Excellent stakeholder management, requirements-gathering, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively across business, analytics, data engineering, and infrastructure teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst, Databricks, or related certifications.
• Experience with Tableau, Grafana, or other data visualization platforms.
• Experience with Azure data services such as Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, or Microsoft Fabric.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, version control, and deployment practices for Power BI and Databricks.
• Experience modernizing large reporting environments and consolidating redundant dashboards.
• Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data lineage, and identity and access management.
• Familiarity with machine learning, predictive analytics, or AI-enabled analytics capabilities.
• Experience working in fast-paced enterprise, modernization, or digital-transformation environments.
