The
Senior Data Analyst is a senior technical contributor within SAIT's Data Governance Office, responsible for leading assigned data quality, data management, analytics, and governance implementation activities across the institution.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Data Management, the
Senior Data Analyst is responsible for the assessment, improvement, and monitoring of institutional data quality. The position ensures trusted, well-governed data is available to support decision-making, operational excellence, compliance, and institutional objectives.
This role combines data governance, analysis, and data quality responsibilities to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of institutional data. Responsibilities include handling data profiling, complex data quality investigations, remediation initiatives, stewardship activities, metadata management, and governance process improvements.
The role facilitates collaboration with data stewards, trustees, business stakeholders, data engineers, and technical teams to resolve data quality issues, gain alignment on business rules and data standards, promote data literacy, and ensure compliance with institutional data policies and standards.
How you'll contributeGovernance Documentation, Business Glossary and Data Standards:- Develop and maintain business glossaries, metadata, data definitions, data quality rules, business rules, standards, procedures, and supporting policy documentation in collaboration with data stewards, trustees, and governance leads.
Data Profiling, Analysis and Quality Management:- Conduct data profiling, analysis, and quality assessment activities for assigned institutional data domains.
- Identify trends, anomalies, root causes, risks, and opportunities for improvement, and recommend remediation approaches.
Data Mastering and Management:- Perform data cleansing, mastering, and management activities for assigned institutional data sets in collaboration with data stewards, data trustees, engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Define business rules and validation logic to improve consistency, accuracy, and usability.
Data Quality Assurance and Stewardship Support:- Develop, implement, and monitor data quality controls, and coordinate stewardship activities for assigned data domains.
- Promote accountability for data assets and escalate unresolved ownership, quality, or compliance risks with recommendations.
Business Requirements and Stakeholder Engagement:- Facilitate stakeholder discussions to translate complex business needs into data requirements, data quality rules, reporting needs, and governance solutions.
- Gain alignment across business and technical stakeholders to support data-informed decision-making.
Data Pipeline and Data Management Tool Support:- Support configuration, testing, maintenance, issue resolution, and continuous improvement activities for Ataccama One and related data management tools within assigned work.
- Partner with technical teams to ensure tool configuration supports governance, data quality, MDM, metadata, and stewardship requirements.
Data Analytics and Insights:- Develop complex analyses, dashboards, reports, and recommendations that identify data quality trends, operational risks, governance gaps, and opportunities to improve institutional data use.
Data Governance Activities:- Coordinate and facilitate assigned governance working groups and data quality discussions.
- Maintain and improve governance processes and contribute recommendations to governance initiatives, standards, procedures, and controls.
Data Literacy and Continuous Improvement:- Develop and deliver data literacy materials, working sessions, and guidance for stakeholders.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance data quality, stewardship practices, governance adoption, and effective use of data management tools.
What you bring- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in data governance, data analysis, data management, data quality, or related roles within large, complex organizations, preferably in Higher Education.
- DAMA Certified: Data Management Professional Certified or equivalent.
- Microsoft Certified: Microsoft Data Analytics, Azure, Fabric or related.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting data governance programs, stewardship initiatives, data catalog or business glossaries.
- Advanced knowledge of data governance, data quality, metadata, Master Data Management, data lineage, and data management tools (Ataccama One preferred).
- Experience with Transact-SQL, data warehousing concepts, analytics and reporting tools (Power BI preferred) is an asset.
- Experience conducting data impact analyses and risk assessments.
- Experience designing and implementing data policies, data standards, or standards operating procedures.
- Experience working with data stewards, trustees, business stakeholders, and technical teams to define data rules, resolve data quality issues, support governance processes, and implement data standards.
