Overview

The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for fundamental and relative-value analysis of assigned sectors within Fort Washington's public and private fixed income portfolios. The role supports portfolio construction and risk management through sector- and security-level analysis, relative-value assessment, and actionable trade ideas aligned with client mandates, with an emphasis on relative outperformance, capital preservation, and liquidity. The analyst provides timely industry- and company-level updates and positioning recommendations to credit research teams, portfolio managers, and Co-CIOs. The scope of coverage varies by analyst and may include investment grade credit (IG), leveraged credit (LC), emerging markets debt (EMD), and/or securitized products (ABS, CLO, CMBS, RMBS), depending on assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

What you will do
  • Fundamental Credit Research & Analysis: Conduct fundamental credit analysis across assigned sectors, issuers, and securities, incorporating macroeconomic, regional, country, industry, collateral, structure, and/or company-specific risks. Evaluate financial statements, business models, management quality, rating actions, and industry trends to form forward-looking, defensible credit opinions. Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned sectors through ongoing credit surveillance, including monitoring industry and issuer events, regulatory and rating agency developments, and market conditions. Produce timely written and verbal communications, including research notes, sector reviews, investment recommendations, new-issue commentary, and periodic positioning updates.
  • Sector PM Ownership: Serve as "Sector PM" for assigned coverage, partnering with portfolio managers to determine sector-, curve-, and security-level positioning across multiple fixed income strategies within defined risk parameters. Develop relative-value views and high-conviction trade ideas-including purchase, sale, and position-sizing recommendations-that support portfolio construction, downside risk management, liquidity, and execution efficiency.
  • Portfolio Risk & Strategy Support: Contribute to top-down risk discussions, portfolio reviews, and strategy meetings that inform sector allocations and overall portfolio risk positioning, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk tolerance and client objectives.
  • Cross-Asset Collaboration & External Engagement: Collaborate with peers across investment grade, leveraged credit, emerging markets debt, securitized, alternatives, and equity research teams to support cross-asset investment decisions. Engage with credit rating agencies, external research analysts, sales and trading counterparts, and company management teams to incorporate external perspectives into credit views.
  • Enterprise Awareness & Client Support: Develop an understanding of third-party total return strategies and internal insurance ALM portfolios, including investment objectives, constraints, risk tolerances, and applicable insurance regulatory considerations. Contribute, as appropriate, to client communications and marketing efforts.

    • Typically, 3-5 years of experience in fundamental credit and/or equity analysis or related experience - Required
    • Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, credit agreements, term sheets, loan documentation, and/or structured product offering materials, with an understanding of key structural, covenant, cash flow, and risk considerations relevant to assigned coverage - Required
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, combined with strong organizational discipline, attention to detail, integrity, and a proactive, collaborative work ethic. - Required
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, comfort working with complex data, and the ability to apply new methodologies, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions while managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision - Required
    • Strong Excel modeling skills and Bloomberg proficiency; experience with data-driven tools (e.g., Bloomberg BQL/API, Python, SQL, or VBA), visualization platforms (Tableau/Power BI), or familiarity with applying AI-enabled tools to financial analysis, research workflows, or investment decision support is a plus - Required
    • Demonstrated strong presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences in a clear, concise, and professional manner. - Required

    Work Setting/Position Demands:
    • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
    • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
    • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
    • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
    • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
    • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
    • Occasional after-hours work needed.

    Travel Requirements:
    • 10% travel for company management meetings, industry conferences, and client engagements.
