Job Overview & Responsibilities

Job Title: Senior Counsel, Government Programs
  • The Senior Counsel will be responsible for legal advice and guidance for ULA's USG programs
  • The Senior Counsel will be a government contracts attorney who will have a strong background working with USG prime contracts, including with Department of War and/or NASA
  • The Senior Counsel will be a leader and will be expected to advise and help develop less experienced attorneys.


This position is responsible for:
  • Advise on all phases of the government contracting lifecycle, including proposal review, contract negotiation, performance, and closeout.
  • Interpret and apply FAR, DFARS, and agency-specific regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate prime contracts, and subcontracts and ensure appropriate flow down of required and recommended terms and conditions.
  • Provide training to internal teams on compliance requirements and risk mitigation.
  • Preparing and implementing corporate policies.
  • Advising on general corporate compliance, regulatory, statutory, and legislative affairs and communications as may affect assigned programs or the company at large.
  • Conducting legal research, prepare memoranda, complete presentations and advise in-house clients on risk mitigation and other decision-making requirements.
  • Effectively managing and supervising outside legal counsel to ensure effective representation and maximize outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience in US government contracts law, preferably in a law firm or government.
  • Ability to adapt and support new and complex legal matters in multiple legal disciplines.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and proactively identify legal issues and provide advisement to business clients using a solution-oriented approach.
  • Strong communications skills to interface and effectively communicate legal advice to internal clients and senior leadership with the ability to translate legal requirements into practical business guidance and explain legal concepts in plain language.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership on key projects and provide direction to business and technical functional organizations.
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to develop business-oriented strategies and evaluate findings based on legal research that can be effectively communicated to business decision-makers.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of contract law and experience with contract drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of law firm or government experience
  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
  • Previous experience working in or with the aerospace and defense industry.
  • Comfort working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Admission to the Colorado Bar or the ability to obtain admission is preferred.


Summary Salary Range (for ULA - Denveronly): $180,835.00 - $335,837.00

Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
