Description

We are hiring a Senior Commercial Counsel to serve as a trusted legal partner to Steelcase's commercial business. In this role, you will provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance that helps enable growth, support customer and dealer relationships, and manage legal and commercial risk.

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with leaders across Sales, Marketing, Dealer Development, Finance, Operations, Product Management, and other business teams while helping shape how legal support enables the business in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

What You Will Be Doing:
• Serve as a primary legal partner to business leaders, providing timely, practical counsel on commercial initiatives, customer relationships, dealer matters, and business risk.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer agreements, dealer and distribution agreements, supplier agreements, master service agreements, NDAs, professional services agreements, and marketing-related agreements.
• Partner with Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, Dealer Development, Finance, Credit, and Commercial Operations on legal matters that support revenue-generating activities and strong customer/dealer relationships.
• Assist with Merger and Acquisition processes, onboarding of new dealers and negotiation of transactional agreements.
• Advise business partners on contract interpretation, risk allocation, indemnification, warranties, limitation of liability, intellectual property provisions, dispute resolution, credit risk, and commercial transaction strategy.
• Identify opportunities to improve legal processes, contract templates, negotiation playbooks, compliance practices, and ways of working across the business.

Minimum Qualifications
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and ability to comply with Michigan Bar licensing requirements.
• 8+ years of progressively responsible legal experience.
• Significant experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on complex commercial contracts.
• Experience serving as legal counsel to business executives or commercial organizations.
• Strong knowledge of commercial contracting principles, contract negotiation, and commercial transaction law.
• Strong legal drafting, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, consumer products, distribution, business-to-business, or similar commercial organizations.
• Experience working with dealer, distributor, or channel partner networks.
• Combination of law firm and in-house corporate legal experience.
• Familiarity with legal issues related to sales, marketing, commercial operations, finance, credit, advertising, data privacy, consumer protection, or antitrust.
• Experience improving contracting processes, templates, playbooks, or contract lifecycle management practices.
