What Role You Will Play In Our TeamThe Senior Commercial & Business Finance Advisor is a strategic finance partner to Downstream Oil & Gas operations across refining, midstream, chemicals, and emerging energy businesses. Through proactive engagement with the business and cross-functional stakeholders, including Tax and Treasury, this role provides financial insights and commercial advisory that shape strategy, influence key decisions, and enable value-enhancing outcomes.
The position ensures complex business transactions are appropriately reflected in financial reporting while supporting governance, risk management, and enhanced business performance.
What You Will Do- Proactively engage with stakeholders to provide meaningful insights and shape strategies and commercial decisions that enable advantaged financial and business solutions
- Provide financial insights and advisory to inform business decisions, including budgeting, economic analysis / presentation, and contract compliance
- Maintains proactive engagement with the business to ensure that Finance is involved in the early stages of commercial deals and other major events to advise, providing guidance and influencing strategies on financial and commercial matters
- Provide proactive advisory to the business and other centralized organizations to ensure commercial deals are appropriately reflected in financial statements and related disclosures
- Partner with the business and other centralized organizations as an integral team member to identify and influence material events, ensuring events are accurately reflected in accounting records and related disclosures
- Participate in and oversee the following activities:
- Support and participate in key financial close processes, as well as provide ad-hoc financial support
- Identify and analyze financial implications associated with business planning and budgeting processes, including ad-hoc analysis of operating expenses and earnings impacts related to planning assumptions and planned asset acquisitions / divestments
- Review of non-routine capital budget / endorsement requests
- Ensures accurate financial reporting of complex transactions through direct engagement with the business, functional contacts, and Finance
- Coordinate the development of materials for management presentations and special projects
- Coordinate the resolution of reporting & accounting issues
About YouSkills & Qualifications- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with 10+ years of progressive financial experience
- Bachelor's / Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- Experience within the oil & gas industry, energy sector, and/or large public-company environments
Technical Expertise- Demonstrated expertise in Business Analysis and Financial Reporting roles; with experience in Internal Audit and/or Risk and Controls
- Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, with the ability to develop and enable advantaged financial and business solutions
- Ability to assess and interpret the financial and accounting impacts of complex and non-routine transactions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate financial risks, opportunities, and strategic alternatives
Strategic Influence & Business Partnership• Strong solution-oriented mindset; ability to influence outcomes and guide negotiations that balance diverse perspectives while driving value-enhancing business initiatives and performance
• Effective collaboration and relationship management skills; ability to build strong partnerships, influence stakeholders, and drive alignment on key business and financial outcomes
Communication- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey complex matters clearly and concisely
- Strong presentation skills, including the development and delivery of executive-level presentations and briefing materials
- Ability to translate technical accounting and financial concepts into practical business implications and recommendations
Preferred Skills & Qualifications- Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP reporting requirements is considered an asset
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and knowledge of ERP systems
