Full Job Description
This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship. Our Executive Liability Division underwrites Directors’ and Officers’ Liability Insurance, Employment Practices Liability Insurance, and Fiduciary Liability Insurance for public, private and not for profit companies. The Executive Liability Division is searching for Senior Claims Attorney. The person hired for this position will work from the Schaumburg, IL or Chicago, IL office. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week (Tuesday-Thursday required), with the flexibility to work one day remotely, Monday or Friday. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities As a member of our Claims Department, you will be responsible for handling an inventory of claim files.  Duties may include:   32Performs detailed analysis of each claim. 32Evaluates coverage and liability, issues written coverage opinions and monitors all aspects of the file while working towardresolution of the claim; including hiring, monitoring and paying defense counsel. 32Develops and implements claim litigation and resolution strategies. 32Provides information to underwriters and reinsurers on specific claims or insureds and legal trends and issues which affect the business. 32Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records, or other documents) in the investigation of claims. 32Attends arbitrations or mediations as necessary. 32May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations where applicable. 32Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner. 32Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed. 32May provide technical advice to other functional areas. 32Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements 32LLM (Master of Law) or JD (Juris Doctorate) and current attorney license required. 32Generally, a minimum of 10 years of legal or claims experience. 32Experience in the areas of litigation, insurance coverage, employment practices, or claims adjusting would be a plus. 32Detail oriented, organized and possess strong analytical skills.
