Job Description

Chubb is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner to join the Environmental Claims team. The Environmental team is part of Chubb Environmental Claims and provides specialized claim handling of first-party and third-party pollution claims.

This is a role focused on technical claim handling for Chubb insureds nationwide. In this role, you will manage environmental liability claims, including first-party, third-party and litigated pollution claims.

This role requires accountability for the handling and disposition of claims, including investigation, coverage, reserves, negotiation, settlement and trial strategies. Some travel will be required, as well as coordination and service of our internal and external business partners. You will represent the company at meetings with management and business partners, as well as at mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences and trials.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes claim resolution strategies.
  • Recognizes potential exposures on claims and prepares appropriate alerts to senior managers and internal business partners.
  • Provides exceptional service to internal and external business partners.
  • Analyzes and identifies coverage issues, prepares comprehensive position letters, and timely communicates coverage positions to appropriate parties.
  • Directs and closely monitors cases with financial impact from inception through trial/resolution.
  • Timely sets reserves within authority or initiates recommendations concerning reserves to management.
  • Travels to conferences, arbitrations, mediations, and trials as necessary. Estimated travel range of 10%, but this may vary as dictated by business needs.
  • If you do not already have one, you will be required to obtain an applicable resident or designated home state adjuster's license and possibly additional state licensure.


Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of liability claims handling experience required, with exposure to progressively more complex claims preferred.
  • Environmental claim specialists strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials on different subjects from various sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills, as well as an ability to deal with customers and business partners in a professional manner.
  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of claim issues.
  • Demonstrated strong relational skills, particularly in adverse or high-pressure situations.
  • Good writing skills.
  • College degree required.
  • A law degree is not necessary but recommended.

The pay range for the role is $94,600 to $136,400. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors. The disclosed pay range estimate may be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
