Full Job Description
Radia is seeking an expert Catia user to support the engineering team by developing and maintaining CAD models of WindRunner. This role will own the CAD representation of the WindRunner aircraft exterior shape (OML loft) and support internal packaging and spatial integration activities. Responsibilities • In collaboration with engineering design teams (e.g., aerodynamics, loads, structures, systems): • Use CAD software to produce and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings/schematics, and associated design specifications and instructions. • Develop and maintain production quality Class A Outer Model Line / Loft definitions for the aircraft using modern 3D surfacing techniques. This will include a variety of surface types from simple shapes to carefully defined fairings. • Create additional surface and solid models representing aircraft structures, systems and transport elements, mechanisms, and stay-in/stay-out/sweep envelopes. • Provide geometric models to engineering disciplines for downstream analysis (e.g. aerodynamic CFD simulations, Finite Element Modeling, Mass Properties analysis, systems spatial integration and separation checks). • Maintain the master model, including integration of CAD deliveries from suppliers into it. • Lead 3D "fly-through" meetings to provide engineering team-wide awareness of airplane integration activities. • Support Supply Chain, Business Development, and Marketing team requests for visualizations • Maintain baseline control and appropriate versioning of CAD data using PLM tools and other processes. • As one of Radia's CAD focals: • Identify and resolve technical issues related to CAD models, software and design processes. • Mentor newer CAD users and provide guidance to the team on best practices and recommended software settings • Manage CAD user accounts • Interface with CAD vendor for maintenance and support of deployed CAD environment Requirements Required Qualifications • 8+ years of related work experience • At least 10,000 hours of experience with CATIA v5 or v6 for surfacing/loft development, integral layout and spatial integration of structure, systems and assemblies, and 2D drawing generation. • Ability to convert conceptual sketches, drawings, and specifications from engineers into detailed 3D CAD models and drawings. • Meticulousness in checking model completeness, accuracy, and adherence to industry standards, regulations, and project guidelines. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. • Experience working with external partners and suppliers on development projects. • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment and individually. • Experience in a fast-paced design environment. • "US Person" able to access data governed by ITAR restrictions Preferred Qualifications • Experience developing CAD models for fixed wing aircraft, large transport category aircraft a plus • AS or BS degree in CAD, Engineering/Engineering Technology (Mechanical, Aerospace, Marine, Automotive), or related fields. • Expertise in modern parametric CAD modeling techniques that allow for robust geometric definitions. • Experience with 3D Experience PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software. Work Environment • This position is anticipated to be based primarily onsite at Radia's facility in Boulder, CO to facilitate close collaboration with engineering teams, program leadership, and certification personnel.
