Position Summary

The Business Systems Analyst serves as the primary business liaison for end-to-end processes supporting multiple Commercial product lines, including Enterprise Trading & Risk Management (ETRM), Market Pricing & Rates (MPR), Operational Margin (OM), End Product Sales Forecast (EPSF), and Product Availability & Allocations (PAA). This role partners closely with business leaders, subject matter experts, and technology delivery teams to define and validate business and system requirements, develop business cases, identify process improvement opportunities, and support the successful delivery of technology solutions. The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for driving operational excellence by optimizing business processes, resolving complex system issues, and ensuring Commercial applications effectively support evolving business objectives.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, self-driven professional with strong analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. They will demonstrate the ability to drive process improvements, support organizational change readiness efforts, and deliver solutions that create value across Marathon Petroleum. This role requires collaboration with a diverse range of business functions and stakeholders throughout the organization, serving as a trusted partner between business teams and technology delivery organizations. The candidate will work closely with Product Owners and Product Teams to troubleshoot issues, identify opportunities for enhancement, and advocate for business needs and priorities. Success in this role requires a strong customer-focused mindset, the ability to build effective relationships, and a commitment to working collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides ongoing administration, operational support, and continuous improvement for Commercial application product lines. Partners with Application Managed Services (AMS) providers and internal technology teams to resolve complex production issues, drive service improvement initiatives, reduce operational risk, and enhance system reliability and performance.
  • Leads improvement recommendations and presents effectively to senior and executive management and global teams.
  • Presents and leads client meetings with the business and development teams. Communicates with senior leaders for understanding and execution of cross functional complex processes and applications to solve for client requirements.
  • Provides recommendations for appropriate systems alternatives and/or enhancements to current systems.
  • Partners with business teams to develop ways to investigate business performance and other measures to gain insight and drive business planning.
  • Leads and serves as a senior resource on cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Serves as a resource to colleagues, mentors and helps improve the team's abilities around all IT Service Management (ITSM) disciplines deployed.
  • Leads the development, execution, and creation of the cross functional testing strategy communicating with all stakeholders for technology delivery.
  • Leads the planning, conducting and documenting of user stories, user feedback. Effectively communicates feedback with senior leaders for technology improvement.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems preferred, related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required
  • Experience supporting Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) platforms such as RightAngle or similar commercial trading applications preferred.
  • Experience providing production support, system administration, and continuous improvement for commercial business applications preferred.
  • Experience partnering with managed service providers and cross-functional technology teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues preferred.
  • Experience supporting market pricing, sales data, and related commercial business processes preferred.
