Role OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Business Analytics Lead to turn important business problems into high-quality analytics solutions across Cooper Equipment Rentals. We are expanding an enterprise analytics environment on Microsoft Fabric, with OneLake, Lakehouse, Direct Lake semantic models, shared governance standards, and a growing semantic layer supporting enterprise reporting and AI-assisted analytics.
You will work directly with business stakeholders to understand the decisions they need to make, challenge proposed approaches where appropriate, and determine what should be built. You will then help deliver the solution hands-on across data transformation, semantic models, and Power BI reporting, using AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude to accelerate development while critically validating the result.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with end-to-end ownership of analytics solutions; it is not a people-management position.
Key Responsibilities - Partner with business stakeholders to understand problems, decision needs, and analytical questions - not simply implement predefined report requirements.
- Translate business problems into analytical solutions, defining the right measures, dimensions, business rules, comparisons, drill paths, and report experience.
- Design and build enterprise semantic models and Power BI reports that are intuitive, reusable, performant, secure, and aligned to clear business definitions.
- Use ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools to rapidly create, modify, refactor, document, and test analytics solutions while critically validating their output.
- Work with source-controlled Power BI artifacts such as TMDL and PBIP/PBIR, alongside Git-based development and deployment practices.
- Develop analytical transformations in Fabric using SQL, Fabric notebooks, Spark SQL, and PySpark where appropriate, partnering with data engineering on larger platform needs.
- Design Direct Lake solutions and make sound choices between Direct Lake, Import, DirectQuery, and composite patterns based on business and technical requirements. Diagnose data, model, DAX, performance, security, and usability issues, including problems in AI-generated implementations.
- Raise standards for analytics solution design, semantic modelling, metadata, documentation, security, testing, source control, and release management.
Qualifications & Skills - Minimum of 5 years of experience delivering enterprise BI or analytics solutions, with strong hands-on Power BI experience.
- Excellent business and analytical problem-solving skills, including turning loosely defined questions into useful, decision-oriented analytical products.
- Strong dimensional and semantic modelling skills across grain, relationships, measures, business definitions, and reusable model design.
- Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience across Power BI, OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, Direct Lake, semantic models, and governance.
- Strong SQL skills plus practical experience with Fabric notebooks, Spark SQL, and/or PySpark for analytical transformation and investigation.
- Strong understanding of DAX and semantic-model behaviour, with the ability to diagnose and validate complex calculations whether written manually or generated by AI.
- Proven ability to use advanced AI tools effectively, providing clear context and requirements and critically reviewing the result.
- Strong stakeholder communication and solution-oriented problem solving, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and explain trade-offs clearly.
- Experience with RLS/OLS, Git-based workflows, deployment pipelines, and structured promotion of Power BI/Fabric content across environments.
