Full Job Description
The Senior Benefits Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of Janney's employee benefit programs and serves as a primary resource for employees and benefit vendors. This role delivers responsive, accurate, and compassionate support across health and welfare, retirement, leave of absence, disability, and workplace accommodation programs. The Benefits Specialist will manage employee benefit issues from intake through resolution, maintain accurate benefit and leave data in Dayforce and vendor systems, and help ensure plans are administered consistently with plan documents, company policies, and applicable federal and state requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Janney's health and welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefit programs, including eligibility, enrollments, terminations, qualified life events, dependent and beneficiary changes, payroll deduction issues, benefit corrections, and related transactions in Dayforce and vendor systems.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and Subject Matter Expert for employees, managers, and HR partners on benefit plan provisions, coverage, claims, eligibility, payroll deductions, policies, and procedures; research complex issues and coordinate with carriers and vendors through final resolution.
  • Administer leave of absence, disability, return-to-work, workers' compensation claims and workplace accommodation programs, while coordinating documentation, communications, pay and benefit impacts, and the interactive accommodation process.
  • Review and reconcile benefit eligibility data, vendor files, payroll deductions, invoices, and reports; investigate discrepancies, document adjustments, support monthly billing, and partner with Payroll, Finance, HR, and vendors to ensure accurate and timely administration.
  • Support Open Enrollment, new-hire orientation, employee education, benefit communications, plan changes, audits, compliance reviews, required notices, government filings, testing, and other regulatory or fiduciary activities while maintaining current knowledge of applicable benefit and leave laws.
  • Develop and maintain procedures, FAQs, templates, job aids, and employee communications; identify recurring issues and recommend process, system, communication, or vendor improvements; protect confidential employee information and support Total Rewards initiatives and special projects as assigned.
  • As needed, assist with general HR administrative processes including onboarding, record maintenance and offboarding.


What you have

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Four or more years of experience in employee benefits administration, preferably with experience administering a self-insured medical plan leave administration, accommodations, HR operations, or a related Human Resources function.
  • Working knowledge of self-funded health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, leave and disability administration, and applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Experience using a self-managed Benefits Administration system such as Dayforce Benefits module
  • Strong employee service, problem-solving, research, and case-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain complex information to employees with varied levels of benefits knowledge.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort reviewing reports, reconciling data, and identifying discrepancies.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, work independently, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Professional benefits or Human Resources certification, such as CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP, or an equivalent credential is a plus.
