Role Name: Senior Azure Database Performance Engineer

Location: Burlington, MA - Onsite

JOB SUMMARY

Seeking an experienced Senior Azure Database Performance Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server ([redacted]), Azure SQL Database, and Azure Managed Instance. The role involves ensuring availability, performance, scalability, and security of mission-critical database environments across hosted and Azure IaaS platforms. The engineer will collaborate closely with application, engineering, and support teams to drive optimization and maintain high availability in a 24x7x365 production environment.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • 6-8 years of hands-on experience with large-scale environments
  • 2+ years experience operating MS SQL in Azure (IaaS, Azure SQL DB, Managed Instance)
  • Prior experience with Snowflake is a strong plus
  • Experience in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization in production environments

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure availability, performance, reliability, and optimization of MS SQL Server (2016/2017/2019/2022) running in hosted and Azure IaaS SQL VMs.
  • Manage and optimize Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments.
  • Monitor and tune database performance, queries, and stored procedures using tools such as SolarWinds, Query Store, Extended Events, etc.
  • Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders to identify and resolve MSSQL-related issues.
  • Develop and enforce database standards, ensuring designs and code follow performance, security, and integrity best practices.
  • Conduct frequent design and code reviews for compliance with database standards.
  • Provide deep technical support to application development and engineering teams.
  • Participate in resolving high-priority incidents; perform root-cause analysis and support corrective/preventive actions.
  • Drive initiatives around database performance improvements and reliability enhancements.
  • Establish and maintain database policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Work closely with Database Manager and multi-functional teams to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Encourage and pursue Azure certifications such as DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong expertise in performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with:
