Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week
Role Overview
As a Release Train Engineer at New York Life, you'll enable an Agile Release Train (ART) to deliver valuable business outcomes by optimizing how teams plan, coordinate and execute using Lean, Product and Agile techniques.
You'll serve as the ART's chief Scrum Master and an outcome-focused servant leader-facilitating ART-level events, aligning teams around objectives and dependencies, removing barriers, and helping teams continuously improve how they deliver value.
This is a role for someone who can create alignment across complex, interdependent teams, coach leaders and teams through their Agile journey, and use transparent metrics and disciplined delivery practices to turn plans into predictable business results.
What You'll Do:
• Lead ART execution. Facilitate and align ART-level events and actively drive Scrum of Scrums to surface roadblocks early, coordinate follow-up and keep teams focused on delivery.
• Drive outcomes and transparency. Champion the syndication of OKRs, track attainment, dependencies and delivery progress, and use Agile metrics to identify where the ART needs to course correct.
• Coach the Agile journey. Assess Agile maturity and coach Scrum Masters and teams in Lean-Agile principles, practices and mindsets to strengthen team effectiveness and continuous improvement.
• Align ways of working. Establish consistent Agile practices across teams within the ART while creating the conditions for teams to collaborate effectively across product and platform boundaries.
• Manage dependencies, risks and change. Help teams identify and resolve cross-team dependencies and ensure Change Control and Risk Management processes are facilitated across products and platforms.
• Partner across the ART. Communicate effectively with Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters and other stakeholders to create shared understanding of priorities, status, risks and decisions.
• Strengthen delivery practices. Champion modern software development and quality practices, including build and deployment automation, unit-test coverage, test-environment management and shift-left practices.
• Use digital tools to create clarity. Role model effective use of digital delivery tools as a single source of truth and as a prompt for deeper conversations about progress, impediments and outcomes.
• Build communities of practice. Foster communities of practice among Scrum Masters and with other RTEs to share practices, elevate capabilities and improve delivery across the organization.
What You'll Bring:
• Deep experience in software delivery, ART management and stakeholder management, with the ability to coordinate work across multiple teams and complex dependencies.
• Strong knowledge of Lean-Agile principles and systems thinking, with a deep understanding of how Agile can be scaled across teams; familiarity with scaling frameworks is helpful.
• Experience working with Agile teams and coaching teams and Scrum Masters to improve Agile practices, mindsets and maturity.
• Strong facilitation, listening and communication skills, including the ability to present to teams and management and communicate effectively across ARTs and teams.
• Fluency with Agile metrics, including what to measure, how to interpret results and how to use insights to improve delivery and course correct.
• Experience tracking OKRs, dependencies, risks and delivery progress and creating transparency for stakeholders.
• A track record of coaching and mentoring teams and Scrum Masters while fostering communities of practice and stronger engineering and quality practices.
• A Lean-Agile, servant-leader mindset grounded in empowerment, collaboration, transparency and continuous improvement.
• Confidence and constructive assertiveness to surface issues, challenge when needed and advocate for what is best for the team and the ART.
• The ability to build trust and rapport and create an effective working environment across teams and stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience in corporate services such as HR, Finance, Procurement or Supply Chain is preferred.
