Summary

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is seeking a Senior Associate, M&A and Structuring to join its growing Renewables team and help propel New York State's energy transition goals while working for the largest public power organization in the United States.

The ideal candidate a) has significant experience in the energy industry, b) has a strong grasp of renewable energy asset acquisitions and project financings, including key transaction and project documents, c) is a creative problem solver who is detail oriented, meticulous, and determined, and d) is passionate about renewable energy and battery storage projects and the role they play in the energy transition.

With oversight from the Senior Director, M&A and Structuring, the Senior Associate will help drive NYPA's efforts identifying, evaluating, developing, and acquiring renewable energy and battery storage projects across New York State. The Senior Associate's responsibilities will require them to directly support project acquisition and work across multiple functions within the organization including transmission planning, legal, finance, engineering, environmental, health, and safety, real estate, and community affairs.

In addition to transaction activities, including financial modeling and managing third-party consultants, the Senior Associate will assess investment opportunities across new project development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and maintenance of complex financial models and presentations for various project financial structures.
  • Oversee the analysis of financial statements and power project business models.
  • Conduct in-depth financial results analysis to identify variations, trends, risks, and exposures.
  • Oversee and manage the development of RFPs for various power projects, co-investors, and consultant support services.
  • Lead the analysis and drive the development of new funding efforts and comprehensive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Recommend solutions to management and advise on decisions for approval.
  • Lead teams as an SME and manage cross-functional collaboration on models, projections, presentations, and projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement of financial processes and methodologies.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, sensitivity analysis, and understanding of accounting/tax implications for project financing structures.
  • Expertise in analyzing financial statements, identifying complex variations, trends, risks, exposures and developing comprehensive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Capable of leading major projects and processes, managing cross-functional collaboration, and coaching and reviewing the work of other professionals.
  • Strong familiarity with the Energy Industry and associated technologies, services, and practices relevant to renewable power and transmission projects are preferred.
  • Proven experience in overseeing and managing the development of Request for Proposals (RFPs) and coordinating with co-investors and consultants.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvements of financial processes and methodologies within the organization.
  • Proficient writing skills with the ability to summarize analysis and present findings to stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical abilities, including statistical and quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to adapt and change work priorities as new details emerge, and to manage a significant workload in a governmental environment with multiple projects and timelines.
  • Ability to influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures and to make decisions on moderately complex issues with significant impact.


Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a business-related field required; MBA or a Graduate Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting, finance, or project finance experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of finance experience with a strong background in financial structuring and developing financial models is preferred.
  • Power or utility experience preferred.


Physical Requirements

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $123,000 - $160,000. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
