The Role

This role is required to support the Quality Control team within GBMO. The Senior Analyst, Quality Control, is responsible for conducting quality control reviews for KYC and Regulatory (Derivative) onboarding of new and existing GBM clients across global jurisdictions, ensuring a client-focused and timely completion of the quality review. This role is instrumental in supporting the onboarding of new GBM clients and/or conducting periodic reviews of existing clients, while ensuring that due diligence processes across various regulatory regimes (including AML/Fin Crime, Tax, Margin, MIFID, EMIR, CANDER, CFTC, and SBS) are consistently conducted and align with Enterprise-Wide and local onboarding standards, policies & procedures. The Senior Analyst plays a vital role in upholding the quality of files for testing purposes and responding to inquiries from compliance, audit (internal & external), AML and first line testing.

The Senior Analyst also supports the consistent application and alignment of Standards & Procedures across the business lines, helping identify potential financial, reputational, operational and compliance risks, in addition to activities that may pose money laundering or terrorist financing risks for GBM clients.

As a Quality Control subject matter resource, this role is involved in reviewing Audit, Compliance, AML and first line testing responses, collaborating closely with the Sustainment and Onboarding teams to help ensure responses are accurate, comprehensive, and that findings are incorporated into feedback and training opportunities where appropriate. The Senior Analyst supports the Senior Manager and Director in enhancing program efficiencies and helping ensure that new initiatives maintain sufficient compliance.

The role also supports specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives that are executed in support of the GBM Onboarding team's business strategies and objectives.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Quality Control reviews: Conduct QC reviews for KYC and Regulatory (Derivative) onboarding of new GBM clients and periodic reviews of existing GBM clients across global jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures during due diligence processes, validating all regulatory requirements are met i.e. accuracy and completements of all required documents saved to the client profile, all required data elements entered to the client profile, and any escalations or exceptions documented and uploaded to the client profile.


  • Management of File Quality: Uphold the standard of files for testing purposes and address inquiries from compliance, regulatory exams, audit, and first line testing effectively. Review validation tests and data reconciliation results across internal systems to identify gaps and recommend solutions per the policies and internal controls set by the Department; escalate issues to the Management when necessary.


  • Work with the onboarding and/or periodic review team(s) to facilitate the reviews of GBM clients in an efficient, compliant, and client-centric manner, rapidly triage and escalate complex issues to management for resolution as needed. In addition, provide clear, constructive, and regular feedback to Execution teams, with a focus on addressing any knowledge gap.


  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.


  • Risk Consideration: Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions i.e. incorporate the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture in daily activities and decisions and identify and mitigate potential risks. Specifically, ensure that the Bank is compliant with all compliance & regulatory obligations and Bank-driven risk measures at the time of client onboarding, at the time of periodic refresh or at ad hoc reviews.


  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  • This position supports GBM Onboarding - Quality Control team. It requires a solid understanding of Global KYC/AML requirements, Regulatory requirements for CANDER, CFTC, SBS, EMIR, MIFID, Tax (IRS, FATCA & CRS).
  • The incumbent will be required to work with the team, external clients and internal stakeholders from all levels and business lines. Communication and making association / linkage across multiple areas will be critical to success.
  • The position requires a structured and disciplined approach to quality check reviews, data management, metrics and reporting as well as a continuous improvement and innovation mindset. Agility and openness to change are key requirements.
  • The position may require multiple concurrent reporting activities under intense deadlines.
  • The position may involve delivery within tight timelines as well as regular problem solving with high ambiguity and complexity.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the financial services sector, with a focus on KYC/AML, Regulatory compliance, quality control, or related fields.
  • University degree in business, finance, law or other relevant field preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of capital market operations and trade lifecycle expertise, coupled with a working familiarity with the corporate and investment banking business.
  • Knowledge of current and anticipated regulatory frameworks impacting client onboarding (KYC/AML, Canadian Trade Reporting, Dodd Frank, EMIR, MIFID, FATCA, CRS & QI) is an asset
  • Proficiency in systems supporting the GBM customer life cycle, with the ability to leverage technology to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively, with minimal supervision, while maintaining a high level of productivity.
  • Sound judgment in identifying risks and the ability to proactively escalate issues to relevant senior management.
  • High degree of professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion, with stringent adherence to confidentiality requirements.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A fast learner with strong analytical skills and innovative mindset, demonstrated ability to work under pressure, deals well with ambiguities and uncertainties, and drives results.
  • Detail-oriented approach to work, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
  • Preferred: CAMS, CFCS, CGSS, NFA Swap proficiency or similar certifications
