Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

Drive operational excellence and innovation at BDC Capital through a robust data foundation, data quality, automation, and AI-enabled workflows. This senior role sits at the intersection of data, process, and AI-enabled operations - building the pipelines, workflows, and agents that give our front and middle office teams a faster, cleaner, and more trustworthy view of BDC Capital's activity. Reporting to the Director of Operations Support, the Senior Analyst is part of the BDC Capital Strategy & Operations team and works closely with Investment, Risk, IT, Finance, and external data providers. The role aligns with the Hub & Spoke operating model being built with IT. The Senior Analyst leads complex projects end-to-end, provides technical leadership, sets technical standards, mentors junior colleagues, and coaches peers on agents and automation practices.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

Specific responsibilities

Data foundation & engineering
  • Design and maintain reliable data flows across the firm's core systems - CRM, portfolio monitoring, subledgers, and external data providers - into a modern lakehouse-based data foundation.
  • Own the data model for assigned domains, including transformations, tests, and metadata to support downstream analytics and AI querying.
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards: catalog, glossary, lineage, and naming conventions.

Data quality
  • Implement comprehensive error-checking, automated validations, and reconciliations across CRM and portfolio-monitoring systems, in close collaboration with data stewards across the business.
  • Operationalize data quality checks onto scheduled, monitored jobs in a governed, auditable environment - replacing ad-hoc scripts and manual reviews.
  • Troubleshoot data and configuration issues and continuously raise data reliability.

Automations & AI agents
  • Architect and build end-to-end automations that eliminate repetitive manual work across the Investment and Strategy & Operations teams.
  • Deploy and iterate on AI agents for tasks such as data capture, reconciliations, market and company research, portfolio monitoring, and reporting - reflecting the broader industry shift toward AI-augmented investment operations.
  • Lead integrations that allow teams to query data through AI interfaces.
  • Anticipate emerging tools and practices (agents, MCP, lakehouse capabilities) and guide their responsible adoption in the team.
  • Establish reusable patterns, guardrails, and standards for automations

Systems support & deployment
  • Ensure optimal usage of CRM and portfolio-monitoring platforms: configuration, portals, reports, and data integrity.
  • Support IT and vendor deployments by gathering requirements, testing changes, and ensuring successful rollout to end users.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Preferred educational background / experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Commerce, STEM, or a related field. Relevant technical certifications an asset (e.g., Databricks, Azure/AWS data, dbt).
  • 4-7 years of experience in a data, analytics, automation, or investment-operations role - preferably in a financial institution, VC/PE firm, consulting firm, technology company, or startup.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping automations or AI-enabled workflows in production, delivering projects end-to-end with senior stakeholders.

Skills, knowledge & competencies
  • Data & analytics tooling: Advanced Python, SQL, and Power BI; hands-on with a modern lakehouse (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake). Familiarity with modern data engineering practices an asset.
  • Automation & AI fluency: Hands-on with a workflow tool (e.g., n8n, Power Automate) and modern AI platforms (e.g., Copilot, Claude); working knowledge of MCPs, APIs, agent frameworks, and prompt engineering.
  • Delivery mindset: Ships working systems, not slide decks. Obsesses over clean data, tight processes, auditability, and reusable components - can't leave a messy spreadsheet or manual handoff alone. Prioritizes ruthlessly and uses measurable outcomes to guide decisions.
  • Curiosity and continuous learning: Proactively explores new technologies and thrives amid evolving requirements or incomplete information.
  • Collaboration and internal networks: Builds and maintains strong internal networks across investment, risk, IT, and finance teams to deliver shared outcomes. Handles sensitive investment and portfolio data with appropriate controls.
  • Strategic thinking and communication: Translates technical decisions for investment and executive audiences, articulating business value and strategic impact. Writes clear briefs and presents confidently.
  • Leadership: Provides technical leadership, coaches junior analysts, sets technical standards, owns responsibilities end-to-end, and demonstrates leadership with senior audiences.
  • Industry knowledge and business acumen: Solid understanding of VC/PE and the technology ecosystem. Fluency in French or English required, with intermediate proficiency in the other; fully bilingual preferred.
