Overview

Who We're Looking For

Toyota's Data Science group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced actuary to join the team as an individual contributor, with responsibilities and scope aligned to the candidate's experience, knowledge, interview performance, and unique skill set. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing pricing and reserving analyses for Toyota's insurance and protection products. As these products represent a strategic growth area for Toyota, the actuarial function will play a critical role in supporting continued expansion.

The Primary responsibilities include independently partnering with product teams to lead pricing strategy for back-end vehicle purchase and lease products, including Vehicle Maintenance Plans, Key Replacement, and GAP coverage. The role will own monitoring and analysis of key pricing components, including claims and operating expenses, identify and recommend opportunities to refine pricing strategies, and lead related updates, including state rate filings as needed. In addition, the role will lead claim reserving and loss estimate development, while partnering with accounting teams to ensure appropriate risk recognition in accordance with applicable actuarial and accounting standards.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide actuarial expertise in the development, review, and implementation of program pricing and filed premium rates.
  • Build, test, and refine predictive models and analytical frameworks that improve forecasting accuracy and business insights
  • Analyze large and complex datasets to support pricing and performance decisions across product lines.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify trends, monitor earnings patterns by product segment, and translate data into actionable recommendations
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders through concise analysis, visualizations, and recommendations
  • Own the quarterly development and delivery of unpaid claims estimates, ensuring soundness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Monitor earnings patterns by product segment and identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for further analysis.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners across departments to support timely decision-making and business objectives.


What You Bring
  • Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Actuarial modeling and production analytics experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience developing pricing, reserving, forecasting, or loss analysis solutions using Python and SQL, with direct contribution to supporting or implementing actuarial models, rate indications, claims estimates, or decision-support tools, and strong familiarity with version control, model documentation, validation/testing, and peer review practices, as well as core statistical and data analysis methods.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to apply sound judgment to complex business and actuarial problems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence and adapt to change in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience with predictive modeling and analytical methods


Added Bonus If You Have
  • Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or equivalent certification
  • Demonstrated experience supporting pricing analyses, rate indications, and state rate filing activities
  • Experience performing reserving analyses, including unpaid claim estimates and related actuarial review
  • Experience conducting pricing reviews and evaluating profitability, trend, and loss performance by product or segment
  • Exposure to warranty, vehicle service contract, or similar insurance/protection products
  • Experience with checks and controls, model governance, or actuarial controls processes
  • Experience developing analytical solutions using Python to support actuarial modeling, reporting, or automation
