The
Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the company's insurance accounting operations, with responsibility for financial reporting, general ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
The ideal candidate will have experience within insurance or financial services accounting, strong technical accounting skills, and the ability to independently manage responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:- Manage key components of the monthly close process, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting schedules.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheet and income statement reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Maintain general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
- Perform detailed account reconciliations and review supporting documentation for assigned accounts.
- Analyze financial activity and work cross-functionally to resolve accounting issues and improve reporting accuracy.
- Prepare and maintain accounting documentation to support internal controls and audit requirements.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing schedules, explanations, and requested financial information.
- Review insurance-related reporting, including premium, claims, and reserve-related information, ensuring consistency with financial records.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to address reporting questions and provide financial insights.
- Support process improvement initiatives designed to enhance efficiency, reporting quality, and scalability.
- Assist with special projects and financial analysis as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior experience within insurance, reinsurance, financial services, or a highly regulated industry preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting month-end close activities.
- Strong general ledger, reconciliation, and journal entry experience.
- Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to various audiences.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated professional who can work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
Compensation: $115,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
