Overview:

If you're looking for the stability of a profitable, growing company with the entrepreneurial spirit of a startup, we're hiring. SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Senior Accountant. This new role offers a valuable opportunity to grow with the insurance company, its parent, and its affiliated managing general agency as operations are stood up and expanded. The Senior Accountant will assist with effective setup of accounting and financial reporting functions to meet the needs of the organization. The individual in this position will work with a dynamic team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in fiduciary and financial accountability and reporting. Primary responsibilities include monthly accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of GAAP and possibly some knowledge of statutory accounting principles ("STAT"), as well as financial policies and controls, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver work products with a high level of accuracy while consistently meeting related deadlines.

What you'd be doing:
  • Prepare and review of work papers, journal entries, reconciliations, and analytics prepared by other team members
  • Perform account and variance analysis as requested by management
  • Mentor the Rising Pioneer providing guidance on best practices in journal entry, reconciliation process, and analytical work.
  • Lead multi-entity consolidations, ensuring intercompany transactions and eliminations are accurately recorded.
  • Identify and deliver coaching to team members to reduce error rates
  • Identify and lead projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting operation
  • Analyze transactions to identify trends and potential issues.
  • Support integration of accounting systems
  • Support the preparation of annual financial reports.
  • Help prepare information for independent auditors and tax preparers

We're looking for someone who has:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting or a business-related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting role.
  • General understanding of GAAP policies, and internal controls
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite with an emphasis on Excel skills
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team
  • Detail oriented and the ability to deliver work products with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to convey complex information
  • Available to work across time zones with flexibility to follow-up on items outside of business hours, including weekends

Highly preferred candidates also have:
  • Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate
  • Experience in MGA/MGU insurance operations
  • Experience in Microsoft office suite with intermediate or advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in NetSuite, Concur, etc
  • Experience with financial analysis and budgeting.
