Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant maintains the books and accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Standards, includes participating in project-oriented work, development of processes and procedures, and participation in accounting cadence. Executes quarterly and annual reporting, balance sheet review; collaborates with accounting team and businesses to ensure processes are effective and efficient to meet department and company objectives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform general accounting transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP): prepare and validate accuracy of month-end closing entries; maintain and reconcile general ledger with thorough understanding of financial reporting and GL structure; account reconciliations and analysis; inventory cycle count coordination and adjustment; and review and approve vendor bill coding
  • Ad hoc reporting and analysis
  • Participate in reporting, balance sheet reviews and fluctuation analysis
  • Prepare audit work papers
  • Assist in review of internal controls
  • Review Staff Accountant's work activities: journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations
  • Research, analyze and document technical accounting issues
  • Participate in implementation and adherence of new accounting standards, including but not limited to, ASC 606 Revenue From Contracts with Customers and ASC 842 Lease Accounting
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments on systems and process improvements; identify and recommend process improvement opportunities
  • Participates in development and implementation of new processes, procedures, policies and controls


OTHER DUTIES
  • Stay apprised of current accounting rules and regulations
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review Staff Accountants' work activities


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or combination of education and related experience
  • 5+ plus years' accounting experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; methods and techniques of financial analysis and research
  • Experience applying ASC 606 Revenue From Contracts With Customers and ASC 842 Lease Accounting
  • Superb accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient user of ERP systems; knowledgeable user of larger financial reporting systems
  • Strong relationship builder with internal employees and external business associates conducted in a professional manner
  • Manage multiple projects; excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills to meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively converse with all levels of the company
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills
  • Professional integrity and accountability
  • Work in fast-paced, collaborative environment


REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Previous experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil and Gas industries
  • Public accounting experience
  • NetSuite experience
  • CPA

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work in a climate-controlled office and routinely use standard office equipment
  • Onsite at the Corporate Office four days per week (Monday-Thursday). Onsite requirements are subject to change at any time.
