Job Summary:
A Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing daily financial operations, performing complex reconciliations, ensuring accurate vehicle inventory valuation, and leading the month-end close process to produce GAAP-compliant financial statements. This role involves interacting closely with Sales, Finance & Insurance (F&I), and Service departments, requiring a deep understanding of dealership management systems (DMS).
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Month-End Close & Reporting: Lead the monthly closing process, preparing financial statements (balance sheet, income statement) accurately and on time.
- General Ledger & Reconciliation: Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, floor plan liability accounts, and manufacturer receivables.
- Inventory & Deal Management: Verify vehicle inventory valuation, cost accounting, and ensure proper billing and invoicing of car deals.
- Tax & Compliance: Prepare sales tax filings, vehicle registration documentation, and assist with external audits.
- Financial Analysis: Analyze financial results and provide insights on profitability, cost optimization, and revenue enhancement to dealership leadership.
- Manufacturer Relations: Manage manufacturer incentives, warranties, and chargebacks
Skills, Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience: 3-5+ years of accounting experience, specifically within an automotive dealership setting.
- Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) required and Dealership Management Systems (DMS) such as CDK Global or Reynolds & Reynolds preferred.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, attention to detail, and the ability to work under strict deadlines.
- Credentials: CPA, CMA, or MBA is highly valued but not required.
