Full Job Description
Position Title: Senior Accountant

Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000 annually / DOE

This is an opportunity for an experienced accountant to step into a newly created role where strong accounting fundamentals meet meaningful work. As the Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations, support month-end and year-end close, prepare financial reporting, and manage complex areas including grant accounting, intercompany activity, capital projects, and specialized financing transactions You'll work closely with the Controller as the organization expands its programs and financial operations, including the addition of a separate development entity requiring intercompany accounting and consolidated financial schedules. The right candidate is confident, analytical and self-directed - someone who can identify issues, communicate them directly and bring solutions to the table without needing constant oversight

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate monthly and annual close activities, prepare complex journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts, investment schedules and other assigned accounts
  • Prepare draft monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, financial analyses, budget variance reports and cash flow forecasts
  • Manage financial reporting and compliance for federal, state, local and private grants, including monitoring allowable costs, restricted funds and reporting deadlines
  • Maintain accounting records for affiliated entities, record and reconcile intercompany transactions and support consolidated financial reporting
  • Support specialized financing and capital projects, including construction accounting, capital expenditures, fixed assets and New Markets Tax Credit financing
  • Prepare audit schedules, workpapers and supporting documentation while strengthening internal controls, accounting procedures and workflow efficiency
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, training and performance management for the Accounting & Payroll Specialist

Requirements
  • 4-6+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience coordinating month-end and year-end close processes and preparing financial statements
  • Experience preparing audit schedules, account reconciliations and supporting documentation
  • Experience in at least one relevant area such as nonprofit accounting, grant accounting, construction accounting, capital projects or complex financing arrangements, with nonprofit accounting strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills with the confidence to work independently, manage competing priorities and communicate financial information clearly
