In this leadership role, you'll guide team members, ensure compliance with GAAP and GASB standards, and manage high-level tasks including reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, preparation of year end audit documentation, and maintaining compliance with internal policies and procedures. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting or a closely related field, and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in professional accounting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Certified Grant Management Specialist or equivalent is desired.
Skills and Abilities:- Expert knowledge of payroll accounting principles, governmental accounting standards (GAAP, GASB, FASB), payroll tax regulations, labor distribution, and federal/state compliance requirements related to payroll processing and reporting.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate complex payroll and financial data, reconcile payroll accounts, analyze labor and benefit trends, identify discrepancies, and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Proven leadership abilities to organize, assign, and review the work of payroll and accounting staff, coordinate payroll audits, and ensure accuracy, timeliness, confidentiality, and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to prepare clear payroll and financial reports, explain complex payroll concepts and regulations, respond to employee and auditor inquiries, and build collaborative relationships with staff, management, auditors, and external stakeholders.
