Position SummaryWe have an exciting new opportunity providing Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) supporting the US Space Force mission to defend National Security Interests in Space as a Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Radar Systems Engineer providing Engineering Support as a member of the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) program in Space Systems Command (SSC), System Delta 85 (SYD 85).
SYD 85 is the U.S. Space Force organization responsible for developing and delivering resilient space capabilities supporting Battle Management, Command, Control, Communication, and Space Intelligence (BMC3I). SYD 85 synchronizes acquisition efforts for critical space system capabilities and works together with Combat Forces Command (CFC) Mission Deltas to improve mission readiness.
SYD 85 contains three System Program Directors (SPDs), formerly known as Senior Materiel Leaders, corresponding to Battlespace Awareness (BA), Battle Management (BM), and Space Access & Networked Services (BN). The DARC program is under Battlespace Awareness, Ground Sensors (SSC SYD85/BAS).
Odyssey Systems provides support to the Government in five areas: Product Support, Sustainment Engineering & Sustainment Management, Technical Order Management, Technical User Interface, and System Design, Engineering, and Integration. These tasks are executed laterally with USSF CFC depot and development contractors and with BMC3I stakeholders.
This is a full-time position at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road with occasional work at Peterson SFB and Schriever SFB in Colorado Springs, CO and the opportunity to telework 1 to 2 days per week at the discretion of the Government.
Responsibilities
An A&AS contractor is a knowledgeable and trusted advisor to the Government Program Office. As an SDA Radar Systems Engineer you will perform engineering analysis, planning, interface design, and provide engineering support for programs in SYD 85. The ideal candidate will be an engineer who can rapidly become educated on a bespoke issue on unique systems, evaluate the cost/benefit of many potential technical solutions, and make recommendations to the Delta or the PEO for how to proceed. You will also create plans for future development and integration of SYD 85 systems. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Review, organize and manage the technical baseline of SYD-85 developed weapon systems using modern tools including Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Manage, analyze, and trace functional and non-functional system requirements, and architecture components
- Participate in trade studies to support the selection of preferred design solutions, commercial hardware or software components, and preferred course of action alternatives in project development/system delivery
- Organize and lead integrated product teams (IPT) to review and resolve technical issues or risks to product delivery
- Provide systems, electrical, and/or mechanical engineering support for new Space Force systems
- Draft and/or review engineering documents (SEP, RMP, CMP, LCMP, PPP etc.) to ensure best engineering practices are implemented
- Review and approve technical deliverables including (Algorithm Description Documentation (ADD), Test plans and procedures, Technical Orders and engineering drawing packages.
- Identify and track development risks in support of Government activities
- Develop technology insertion and risk reduction strategies, studies, and recommendations to mitigate identified risks
- Draft, review, and provide input during the development of system requirements and design documentation (e.g., SRDs, FRDs, SOWs)
- Provide technical evaluation of contractor proposals
- Provide proposal analysis support services that compare and quantify proposed systems, components, and approaches for technical feasibility, compatibility, and cost-effectiveness
- Provide overarching technical support services, including reviews, studies, audits, evaluations and analyses, scientific and procedural guidance, documentation, technical analysis, and support of associated engineering IPTs
- Support development of system integration plans, procedures, and scenarios
- Provide relevant input to acquisition planning activities, upgrades and modifications, and studies and interface with stakeholders, contractor personnel, and product integrators
- Develop and maintain relationships with DoD, Air Force, Space Force, and Intelligence Community stakeholders throughout the BMC3I enterprise
- Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations at the request of the Government
- Other duties as required/requested by the Government within the constraints of the S3 contract
Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Clearance: DoD Secret
Education: Bachelor27s degree in systems engineering, Engineering Management, Information Technology, or a technical space related discipline
Years of Experience: 8 years of relevant experience with 4 years in a Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, or technical space analysis role in a Program Office, operational technical staff, or Sustainment organization supporting similar Department of Defense or Intelligence Community Space Surveillance systems OR,
- Master27s degree in systems engineering, Engineering Management, Electrical Engineering (RF), or a related discipline with 4 years of relevant experience in a Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, or technical space analysis role in a Program Office, operational technical staff, or Sustainment organization supporting similar Department of Defense or Intelligence Community Space Surveillance systems
Other Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to interact and build effective relationships and teams with government customers, FFRDCs, and contractors, working in a highly dynamic environment
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment 2D able to take ownership of problems and see through to completion
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) with internal and external clients
- Preferred Qualifications:
Clearance: Active DoD TS/SCI clearance, amenable to polygraph
Education/Experience: Degree and/or experience in RF engineering, signal processing, agile software development, GPGPU cluster development or optimization, space systems operations and analysis, Space Domain Awareness (SDA) systems test and evaluation
Certifications: PMP Certification; DAU DAWIA, or equivalent Acquisition Program Management, Systems Engineering, or Test Level II or III training
Experience:
- Prior work in program management or assisting program management desired
- Prior work with RF or optical systems including Radars and/or RF communications
- Prior work in developing signal processing systems
- Prior work with DoD software and hardware Agile, waterfall, and hybrid development efforts
- Prior work in testing RF, optical or space systems
- Prior work with SDA sensors, command and control systems, and networks
- Prior work with Space Operations
- Prior work as an A&AS contractor in a DoD, MDA, or IC Acquisition organization
