Job Description

Take the lead in a fast-paced laboratory environment, guiding daily kinase profiling and screening activities to ensure high-quality results and exceptional client service. As a Scientist II and laboratory floor leader, you will optimize workflow, allocate resources, and adapt priorities in real time to support urgent deliverables and achieve turnaround time goals. You'll leverage your expertise with liquid handling robotics, automated plate readers, and screening technologies to generate reliable data, support client reporting, troubleshoot assays, and drive continuous process improvements. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on scientific success while supporting a collaborative and innovative research team.

Here's what you'll do:
  • Act as a laboratory floor leader, driving the execution, troubleshooting, organization and improvement efforts surrounding the kinase screening and profiling group
  • Coordinate team efforts and adjust staffing and resources to prioritize daily tasks as needed with the oversight of the Group Leader.
  • Operate HTS instrumentation including ECHO acoustic dispenser, Agilent V-prep liquid handler, multidrop combi, etc.
  • Perform transfections, protein expression and preparation of crude lysates from mammalian and bacterial cultures (T7 phage display and liposome mediated transfection)
  • Independently analyze screening results using regression analysis and data visualization software including TIBCO Spotfire, PRISM and proprietary tools
  • Prepare reagents, perform reagent QC, and chemistry-related calculations as needed
  • Provide cell culture, cell-based assay and other cross-functional support to R&D group or Safety Pharmacology as needed
  • Develop and optimize SOPs as part of continuous improvement program
  • Conduct all activities in a safe and efficient manner. Adheres to site employee health and safety (EHS) requirements


Qualifications

The ideal candidate:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology with at least 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree in Biology with at least 2 years of experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as standard operating procedures and technical reports
  • Ability to perform analyses and data interpretation
  • Ability to multitask with organization and manage time effectively
  • Ability to solve practical problems and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting, according to the physical requirements of a laboratory role
  • Has lab equipment and office computer/software proficiency
  • Has above average oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and capacity for team environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and conduct small projects with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in the U.S. indefinitely without sponsorship


Additional Information

The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., with overtime as needed. Candidates within a commutable distance of San Diego, CA are encouraged to apply.

Pay rate range: $37.50 - $42.30/hr.
