What You Will Do:
We are seeking aScientisttoindependently provide support services to satisfy the overall operationalobjectivesof the National Cancer Institute(NCI).Theprimaryobjectiveis to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.This is a full-time, on-site role inBethesda,MD.
- Conduct laboratory-based translational research with a focus on drug development for the treatment of cancer.
- Study cultured human and animal cell lines, including those derived from cancer tissue, and analyze cancerous and noncancerous human and animal tissues.
- Operate advanced genetic, biological, and biochemical assays, includingDNAtransfection, monolayer and anchorage-independent growth assays, immunoprecipitation, agarose gel electrophoresis, and in vivo and in vitro kinase assays.
- Perform confocal immune-confocal microscopy of cells.
- Perform studies that result in technical reports and information to advance cancer research.
- Initiate, design, and develop new projects and assays that supportexternal collaboratorsandNCIin advancing cancer research, diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines.
- Provide subject matterexpertisein the tumor biology under study and the assays being performed.
- Interpret results ofinitialanalysis to reveal conclusions and shortcomings;identifypitfalls in the original choice of methods orexperimental direction;redirect the study to achieve improved results.
- Identifythe need for further investigations and/or proposechangesin direction of workconsideringaccomplishments, findings, andcurrent and future missionobjectives.
- Collaboratewith scientific staffinidentifyingkey research questionsfuturein vitro and in vivo studies canaddresssuch asgainingabetterunderstandingthe effects novel experimental therapeuticshaveon immune cells, cancer cells, and mouse tumor modelsas well ascell transformationmechanisms,molecular targets,and biomarker signatures that may inform prevention, diagnosis, or treatmentof disease.
- Collaborate with scientists and statisticiansacrossNCI, NIH, and extramural research institutions,asappropriate, to advance researchprojects andinterpretationof cancer-related data.
- Consultwith NIH/NCI expert staff to clarify needs and projectobjectives.
- Present at conferences and seminars, andparticipatein committees, panels, andforumsthatestablishpolicy or plan activities in the field.
- Prepare data sets,tables andfigures for collaborative papers prepared for publication in peer-reviewed journals; assemble anddraftpapers for first-author publication in peer-reviewed papers.
What You Will Need:
- PhDin Biology, Life Sciences,orrelated fields.
- Minimum ofTWO (2)years oflaboratoryresearch experience intheareas ofimmunology, molecular biology, orsimilar disciplines.
- Expertisein mouse handling procedures,such as administeringintraperitoneal and intravenous injections, tumormeasurements,and dissections.
- Experience with immunologyresearchtechniques,such asmultiparameter flow cytometry processing and data analysis, and in vitro functional assays.
- Proficiencyin molecular biology techniques,such asDNA/RNAextraction and quantification, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, polymerase chain reaction, and immunoprecipitation.
- Must be able to obtain andmaintaina Federal or DoD public trust ;candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse. Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Experience with confocal microscopy is preferred.
- Knowledge of proper laboratory techniques, disposal methods, safety procedures, and universal precautions.
- Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently onprojects.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to learn new techniques and teach known techniques to others.
The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00-$108,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
