POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity to support our client in applied biocatalysis. The Principal Scientist will be responsible for using enzymatic reactions to prepare chiral intermediates and optimize reaction conditions to accelerate process development. The candidate will also be responsible for writing and reviewing documentation, regularly updating notebooks, providing updates to management, following all safety protocols in the laboratory, and supporting other laboratory activities as needed.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work in a collaborative environment, implement biocatalysis under the guidance of a SME, and take full responsibility for a research project.
  • Run enzymatic reactions, isolate pure products, and optimize the reactions to develop scalable processes.
  • Develop assays to evaluate enzyme activity, use high throughput experimentation to prepare enzyme plates, and immobilize enzymes on resins
  • Perform chiral analysis using UPLC and GC, and characterize the products using NMR and MS.
  • Analyze experimental data and properly document experiments (electronic lab notebook and records).
  • Generate protocols, reports, and presentations on performed experiments.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Perform other laboratory-based activities, as required.


Qualifications

BASIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A PhD degree in chemistry, biocatalysis, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline is required; experienced candidate is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changes in project priorities and timelines.
  • Highly self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, with a can-do attitude

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a laboratory, particularly in enzyme-catalyzed reactions, enzyme kinetics, protein engineering, photo-biocatalysis, fermentation, enzyme immobilization, or enzyme assays, is preferred but not required
  • A working knowledge of common analytical instruments, including HPLC, GC, KF, NMR, and MS, is preferred.
  • Experience in chromatography is a plus.
  • Understanding of pharmaceuticals development and cGMP principles is a plus
