JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Opportunity
The Manager, Global Scientific Affairs, will work daily on site out of our Princeton, NJ or Ottawa Canada locations in the Point of Care Division in Abbott.

Our i-STAT System is an advanced, portable diagnostic tool that provides real-time, lab-quality results within minutes to accelerate patient-care decision-making. By delivering lab-quality results in minutes, our i-STAT System fosters a collaborative, patient-centered environment while driving improved operational performance.

What You'll Work On

Our Scientific Affairs Team has an opportunity for a Manager, Global Scientific Affairs. The person hired will be responsible for overall coordination of investigator sponsored studies (ISS) and collaborative studies (CRS) from initiation of study discussions and scientific engagement, oversight of the concept/proposal submission, review & collaboration, start-up to study close-out, including agreement execution, study material shipment, gathering and communicating periodic study updates and, timely execution of study.

As a Manager, Global Scientific Affairs, you will lead the strategy, coordination, and execution of investigator-sponsored and collaborative studies from concept through study closeout. You will serve as a key liaison between investigators and internal stakeholders, ensuring studies are executed efficiently, compliantly, and on schedule while supporting the generation and dissemination of scientific evidence.

In addition:
  • Manage the full lifecycle of collaborative and investigator-sponsored studies, including proposal review, study startup, agreement execution, study conduct, budget management, milestone tracking, and study closeout.
  • Partner with principal investigators, APOC teams, and Scientific Review Committees to review study concepts, develop protocols, coordinate submissions, and facilitate study approvals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for investigators and study sites, maintaining clear communication and documentation throughout the study lifecycle.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Legal, Supply Chain, R&D, PMO, and other stakeholders to ensure successful study execution.
  • Provide scientific and technical expertise, including product training, study design consultation, protocol development, workflow optimization, and issue resolution.
  • Track study milestones, budgets, invoices, essential documents, shipments, and publication timelines to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
  • Support the development, review, and tracking of abstracts, posters, manuscripts, and other scientific publications.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging scientific literature, competitive technologies, and industry trends to inform scientific strategies and evidence generation activities.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives through the development and maintenance of SOPs, study documentation, and medical information resources.
  • Support Scientific Advisory Boards and other scientific engagement activities as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all quality, regulatory, and EHS requirements while maintaining the effectiveness of the Quality System.


Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of at least 5 years clinical research/medical affairs/project management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with clinical trials and managing research studies
  • Knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques, performing data analysis, tracking clinical studies and publications.
  • Understanding of the clinical laboratory, assay/instrument principles involving in vitro diagnostic product design and usage, and the scientific, statistical, regulatory and compliance requirements of clinical research.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time to meet investigators and clinical trial staff.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with managing publications
  • 8 or more years of experience is preferred in similar area.
  • Advanced degree (master's or PhD or MD) is preferred.
  • Experience running clinical trials in international geographies (preferred).
  • Influence and lead both with and without direct authority.
  • Ability to clearly, concisely and accurately communicate (written and oral)
  • Ability to confidently speak in public, lead meetings and group discussions
  • Form and develop long-term strategic and professional relationships; display socially and professionally appropriate behavior.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills

The base pay for this position is
$113,300.00 - $226,700.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
