Full Job Description
Weyerhaeuser is currently searching for a Production Superintendent to manage the sawmill at our Cottage Grove Lumbermill in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

The Sawmill Superintendent is a full-time, exempt position reporting directly to the Mill Manager and is responsible for leading improvements in safety, reliability, value extraction and production at our Cottage Grove Lumbermill. This position is a key member of the Cottage Grove leadership team, and this individual will provide oversight and support to the Sawmill and Log Yard departments, including maintaining a strong relationship with our maintenance and finish teams. The successful candidate will be a safety role model with excellent team skills and a proven ability to lead and develop people in a union environment.

As Superintendent, you are responsible for the safe coordination and oversight of the daily activities in the sawmill and will lead the team by proactively resolving employee issues, building teamwork, and ensuring adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.

Key Function, but not limited to the following duties:
  • Manage the departmental safety processes and education to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Optimize your functional area including planning production activities and budget, coordinating maintenance activities with the maintenance team, and improving performance according to set objectives and established goals for quality, waste reduction, and process reliability.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, planning, scheduling and general supervision of work, evaluating job performance, and providing regular feedback and coaching for development of team leaders, as well as hourly production.
  • Facilitate proactive problem-solving and communication with other site leaders.
  • Provides leadership for process improvement, regular team meetings and safety; facilitates proactive problem-solving.
  • Ensure accurate and timely production reporting.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Forestry, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years' experience in lumber or wood products manufacturing preferred
  • At least 5 years' leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated leadership results in safety
  • Track record of success in a complex and fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability in leading a team to achieve breakthrough results
  • Ability to raise performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set
  • Ability to lead teams, generate commitment, motivate employees toward a common goal, and promote a culture of trust and collaboration
  • Ability to analyze and present data
  • Working knowledge of labor relations preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills--conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving
  • Excellent communication skills--oral, presentation, written, and listening
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, work ethic, good judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and other Windows based programs
  • Must be able to accept and respond to after-hour calls, work weekends/holidays as needed

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $115,280 - $144,695 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10 - 15% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
