Lead, SAP Project Systems & Sales and Distribution

Summary:
The Lead, SAP Project Systems & Sales and Distribution is responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, enhancement, and support of SAP Project Systems (PS) and Sales and Distribution (SD) solutions. This role serves as the primary functional expert for project management, sales, order management, fulfillment, pricing, shipping, billing, and revenue recognition processes, ensuring SAP capabilities effectively support business operations and strategic objectives.

The position partners closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and cross-functional SAP resources to translate business requirements into scalable system solutions. The Lead drives continuous process improvement, supports enterprise technology initiatives, and ensures seamless integration across the SAP landscape to optimize operational efficiency, customer experience, and financial performance.

Essential Functions:
Functional Leadership & Business Partnership
  • Serve as the primary functional subject matter expert for SAP Project Systems (PS) and Sales and Distribution (SD)
  • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders and provide guidance on system capabilities, process improvements, and best practices
  • Facilitate requirements gathering sessions and translate business needs into functional specifications and SAP solutions
  • Lead and advise on business process improvement initiatives across PS and SD, including Project-to-Order (PTO) and Make-to-Order (MTO) scenarios
  • Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and operational improvements
  • Provide recommendations on solution design to support project management, sales operations, order fulfillment, and customer service objectives

SAP Configuration & Solution Delivery
  • Lead end-to-end configuration, testing, and deployment of SAP PS and SD modules within S/4HANA environments
  • Drive SAP S/4HANA PS and SD solution design activities including Enterprise Structure, Master Data, transactional processing, reporting, and RICEFW objects
  • Configure and maintain Project Systems processes including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), networks, milestones, project profiles, project planning, execution, resource management, results analysis, and project billing
  • Configure and maintain Sales and Distribution processes including customer master data, Order Management, Billing Plans, Pricing Procedures, Credit Management, shipping, delivery processing, billing, and returns management
  • Review and finalize functional configuration documents, RICEFW specifications, and technical design documents across PS and SD modules
  • Collaborate with IT business analysts, Business Process Owners, ABAP developers, and external vendors on custom development needs
  • Support system upgrades, enhancements, and new functionality deployments to ensure alignment with business requirements

Integration & Process Optimization
  • Manage integration touchpoints between PS, SD, and related SAP modules including Finance (FI), Controlling (CO), Materials Management (MM), and Production Planning (PP)
  • Ensure deep understanding and support of PS-SD integration for project invoicing, revenue recognition, and cost/revenue planning
  • Ensure end-to-end process integration and data consistency across project management, sales, fulfillment, billing, and financial processes
  • Analyze existing business processes and recommend system improvements that increase efficiency, scalability, and user effectiveness
  • Support data governance and process standardization efforts across functional areas
  • Identify and implement opportunities to leverage SAP capabilities to improve business performance and reporting

Project Delivery & Production Support
  • Lead and support SAP implementation projects, system enhancements, upgrades, migrations, and optimization initiatives
  • Support unit testing, integration testing, and lead user acceptance testing (UAT) across PS, SD, and all integrated modules
  • Develop and execute test plans, coordinate user acceptance testing, and validate production readiness
  • Provide production support, troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate resolution efforts
  • Support change management activities to ensure successful adoption of new processes and functionality

Training, Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
  • Develop and maintain business process documentation, functional specifications, configuration documentation, and training materials
  • Conduct training sessions and knowledge transfer activities for end users and business stakeholders
  • Provide post-go-live support and hypercare assistance following implementations and major system changes
  • Mentor junior functional analysts and share functional knowledge across the SAP team
  • Collaborate with technical resources and external partners to ensure effective solution delivery and support

Education & Experience:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Ten (10) or more years of hands-on SAP functional experience with a strong focus on Project Systems (PS) and Sales & Distribution (SD)
  • Proven expertise in PS configuration including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), networks, milestones, project profiles, and results analysis
  • Strong SD configuration experience covering Order Management, Billing Plans, Pricing Procedures, and Credit Management
  • Deep understanding of PS-SD integration for project invoicing, revenue recognition, and cost/revenue planning
  • Solid integration knowledge across CO, FI, SD, MM, and PP within a project-driven environment
  • Experience supporting or leading at least two full-cycle SAP implementations or migrations in a functional consultant capacity
  • Strong knowledge of IT Functional Design Methods, Business Process Mapping, and RICEFW documentation standards
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into functional designs and system solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to produce clear functional specifications and business process documentation
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, develop project schedules, and drive cross-functional collaboration

Preferred
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA, including Project Systems and Sales and Distribution functionality
  • Experience in a project-based, engineer-to-order, homebuilding, construction, or real estate environment
  • SAP certification in Project Systems (PS), Sales and Distribution (SD), or related SAP disciplines
  • Familiarity with SAP Fiori apps and S/4HANA embedded analytics for PS and SD reporting
  • Exposure to SAP PP (Production Planning) integration with PS for make-to-order scenarios
  • Experience applying Lean methodologies in a technology or SAP implementation environment
  • Experience participating in SAP transformation, migration, or modernization initiatives

Skills & Competencies:
