Full Job Description
As a senior member of the IT organization, the Lead SAP Basis Architect provides strategic technical leadership for the design, evolution, and governance of the company's hybrid SAP application landscape. This role partners closely with business leaders, enterprise architects, delivery teams, and external partners to define and execute technology strategies that support the organization's business objectives and technology strategy. The architect combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen, translating complex technical challenges into scalable, secure, high performing, strategic and sustainable solutions. They lead architecture decisions across SAP platforms, integration, and supporting technologies, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, roadmaps, and long-term business strategy. This role drives platform modernization initiatives, establishes architecture best practices, and guides the delivery of complex programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilites: Core Responsibilities
  • Own and lead enterprise-wide SAP technical architecture across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments, including application, integration, infrastructure, and data layers, ensuring alignment with strategic roadmaps and enterprise platforms.
  • Drive solution design and architecture for large, complex initiatives, including system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and platform modernization, ensuring scalability, performance, resilience, and cost optimization.
  • Lead technical strategy and roadmap development, defining current-state, future-state (FROM-TO), and transition architectures across a diverse application portfolio (manufacturing, supply chain, analytics, HR, integrations).
  • Provide thought leadership on emerging SAP and industry technologies, evaluating, recommending, and guiding adoption of innovative solutions aligned to business objectives and long-term architecture direction.
  • Ensure end-to-end system design quality, including performance, reliability, security, usability, and flexibility to support future change across an integrated and highly interdependent SAP ecosystem.
  • Evaluate and rationalize application and add-on landscape, guiding decisions to retain, retire, upgrade, or replace components in alignment with future architecture.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives, acting as a catalyst for change across systems, processes, and technologies.
Standards, Governance & Operational Excellence
  • Define and enforce architecture standards, best practices, and governance processes to ensure consistency, maintainability, and quality across all SAP solutions.
  • Optimize system performance and operational efficiency, including proactive identification and resolution of architectural and technical bottlenecks.
  • Guide development and BASIS teams, providing deep technical expertise, troubleshooting support, and ensuring alignment to architecture principles and standards.
Collaboration, Leadership & Influence
  • Partner with senior leadership, business stakeholders, and program teams to translate business strategy into technology solutions and architecture decisions.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with vendors and partners, influencing product direction, resolving issues, and driving value from external engagements.
  • Mentor and develop technical talent, building architecture capabilities within the organization and ensuring knowledge transfer across teams.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent or equivalent work experience
  • More than 12 + years of experience in enterprise projects and 5-8 years of relevant enterprise solution architecture experience, with 3-5 years of experience in leading architecture efforts for legacy system modernization and application portfolio rationalization.
  • Direct experience in implementing SAP ERP
  • Strong business process knowledge (design, improvement & integration)
  • Experience in leading change management
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Subject matter expert in project management execution of multiple enterprise level, mid to large sized projects; experience in participating in multi-discipline, high-performance work teams/groups and demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
  • Expert in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including experience in presenting material to senior management
  • Demonstrated use of advanced problem-solving skills, system thinking, business skills, solid verbal and written communication skills, excellent relationship building skills, as well as strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Extensive understanding both long-term and short-term 'big-picture' perspectives.
  • Ability to understand the business architecture, processes and strategies.

Working conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to traverse between multiple locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania as needed.
