Full Job Description
Duties:

BlueScope Conventional Steel Services (BCSS) supports Butler Manufacturing and Varco Pruden Buildings as divisions of BlueScope Buildings North America (BBNA). The Sales Engineer will be required to utilize knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering to provide the design, estimating, and communication link between BCSS and the builders, and between BCSS and the brands. The Sales Engineer will develop preliminary structural designs, coordinate with internal and external suppliers, and complete professional proposals for both conventional and hybrid buildings. The required responsibilities will be as follows: review building drawings and specifications to identify scope of work required for proposal; develop plan for obtaining outside engineering resources if required, requesting/receiving outside supplier quotes, developing estimate and delivering proposal; communicate with BCSS management and brand sales organization to develop sales strategy, define margin levels, promote BCSS, etc.-includes travel as required; communicate with customer to clarify their building requirements, and confirm proposal delivery schedule; and develop or manage preliminary structural design using both conventional steel and PEMB design tools, and include proposal drawings and reactions as needed. The Sales Engineer must provide sales revenue as part of BCSS Sales and Estimating team to meet annual planned sales revenue and meet or exceed planned margin revenue. The position will support Butler and Varco Pruden sales team with sales and project specific initiatives, including any necessary in-person or virtual coordination meetings. The position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to set and achieve goals and deadlines. Success in the role requires strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. No formal hire / fire authority.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or a related field, plus five years of experience in the construction industry. PE Required. Position requires a minimum of three years of experience with the structural design of conventional and steel buildings, and two years of proposal, estimating, or sales experience. Experience must include the implementation of building codes and steel product codes into design and proposals including IBC, ASCE, AISC CFE2008, SJI, SDI, REP2014, NSR-10. Must have experience utilizing estimating and design spreadsheets and drafting proposal letters. Must have experience with building design and building design programs. Must have experience utilizing the principles and theories of civil/structural engineering in order to perform the requisite design and assure the structural safety of steel building projects. Must have experience practically applying engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of steel building projects. Must have experience interpreting information provided by other engineers and apply this information to technical drawings. Must have good written and verbal communication skills, and experience providing client presentations. The position permits remote work from one of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, or Wisconsin. Position requires national travel up to 5% of the time.
