Join Golden Valley Electric Association as the Safety Manager in Fairbanks, Alaska, and lead the development of a strong safety culture that supports employees, members, contractors, and the public across all GVEA facilities. In this role, you will oversee organization-wide safety and risk management programs, ensuring regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement in workplace safety, training, and operational excellence.

YOUR ROLE AS THE SAFETY MANAGER

As the Safety Manager at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will lead the organization's safety and risk management programs across all GVEA facilities, including Fairbanks, North Pole, Healy, Division offices, and Eva Creek Wind Farm. You will champion safety as a core value by developing strategic initiatives, policies, procedures, training, and systems that strengthen employee ownership, accountability, and engagement.

You will oversee safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, contractor safety, PPE requirements, and key programs such as Workers' Compensation, Respiratory Protection, Silica Management, DOT drug and alcohol testing, Hearing Conservation, SDS Management, and LOTO. You will also maintain required regulatory records, coordinate with agencies such as OSHA and ADEC, and exercise stop-work authority when necessary to protect employees, contractors, members, and the public.

In addition, you will supervise and develop Safety Department staff, coach leaders on effective safety practices, manage the department budget, and provide safety reports and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board. WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

To succeed in this role, candidates should have a strong background in industrial safety, leadership, and regulatory compliance. A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, although equivalent experience may be considered.

The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, a practical problem-solver, and a confident leader who can manage multiple priorities and work well with employees at all levels.
