The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Accelerated Compensation for Developmental Position (ACDP) under the direct guidance of a Senior and/or Lead Occupational Safety & Health Specialist, performing Occupational Safety & Health Specialist duties in support of assigned program(s) for the function. This position is intended to develop incumbents who can deal effectively with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to their career field to perform the full range of Occupational Safety & Health Specialist work, to apply the training and/or education received and complete developmental assignments and training outlined in the formal training & development plan. The full performance (target) level of this position is NH-03; Incumbent must meet all regulatory training requirements prior to promotion to the target grade. The incumbent will receive formal, informal, and/or on-the-job training in the specialty area, and assignments will become progressively more difficult in nature. Assignments at this level are designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties at the full performance level. Utilizing a program and analytical knowledge as a program analyst and knowledge of other related fields of work to perform duties in support of conventional projects or portions of larger projects and programs under the guidance of a senior and/or lead analyst. The incumbent must apply judgment in the independent application of the job specific methods and techniques previously appended. Employee has complete responsibility for assigned projects that may be portions of more complex projects or programs assigned to a senior and/or lead analyst. Applies practices and developmental knowledge of work-related specialties to assigned projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
1. Knowledge of complex safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues as they relate to the military installation occupational safety program; the requirements, methods, and techniques of accident/mishap investigation, analysis, resolution of safety problems, and formal reporting procedures; and risk assessment methods and techniques for evaluation of safety and occupational health risks.
2. Knowledge of basic safety construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with regulations and standards.
3. Knowledge of standard training techniques, methods, and materials sufficient to develop and present formal training and instructional sessions.
4. Skill in conducting mishap investigations; analyzing and evaluating hazardous conditions; preparing reports and recommendations and addressing risk assessment methods and techniques for safety code compliance.
5. Skill in the interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications sufficient to identify hazardous conditions in proposed facilities.
6. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
