As a Safety and Occupational Health Manager, you will perform the following duties:
- Manage the Safety and Occupational Health Training Program for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Updating 29 CFR 1960 required trainings as appropriate.
- Managing a portfolio of national training programs such as Collateral Duty Safety Officer (CDSO), Employee Occupational Safety and Health, Supervisory Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management Information System, OSHA-required Safety Training for Field Units and Other Occupational Safety and Health Training as required.
- Manage responses to annual reports to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Annual OSHA Report.
- Authors and generates Quarterly Safety Communication letters to the workforce.
- Supervises a team of GS-0018 Safety Professionals.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: Per OPM Individual Occupational RequirementsEducation: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

Experience: Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
- Managing safety or occupational health program elements.
- Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
- Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses;
- Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards.
- Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
OR
Certification: Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination meets the requirements for GS-5. Applicants may also qualify for higher grade levels based on their education and/or experience.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE ABOVE BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, YOU MUST ALSO MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as:
- Served as an advisor on several Occupational Safety and Health programmatic areas and/or critical program segments for which both the scope and effect of the work have an impact on one or more locations;
- Managed a comprehensive and diverse enterprise-wide safety program including elements defined in the 29 CFR 1960 (Safety Inspections, Injury/Illness Reporting, Committees/Councils, Training, etc).
- Served as subject matter expert (SME) in the field of occupational safety and health management with responsibilities for: oversight of contract service providers, development of national occupational safety and health training programs and the evaluation of field safety and health program implementation.
- Assisted leadership/Team Leads in providing technical guidance and problem-solving techniques using Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) to all levels of management and field offices on safety and health issues.
- Provided advice on work methods, best practices and procedures. Assists the team or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution within the context of safety and health.
