Job Title:
Rotating Equipment Manager

Department:
Administration and Planning | FOD Operations Mechanical and Electrical: Electrical

The Rotating Equipment Manger directly oversees front-line staff members in the Mechanical Shop and is responsible for mechanical maintenance activities scheduled or arising throughout campus, with a focus on rotating equipment (e.g., fans, pumps, etc.). This role assists the Senior Manager with the overall operation of the Mechanical Shop and works closely with them to provide scheduling and supervision.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing customer service and supporting other facilities management functions.
  • Collaborating with others to develop preventive maintenance and corrective action schedules.
  • Instructing staff and participating in the evaluation of building systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Monitoring the purchasing of materials, supplies, tools, billables, metrics, and related resources.
  • Responding to facility issues and overseeing preventive maintenance activities in campus buildings.
  • Preparing estimates for billable work performed by mechanical maintenance staff.
  • Ensuring environmental sustainability initiatives are integrated into all facilities operations.

As the direct supervisor of staff performing mechanical work, this position is responsible for:

  • Providing staff training.
  • Developing daily work schedules.
  • Forecasting maintenance needs.
  • Conducting performance reviews.
  • Managing corrective action processes.
  • Coordinating absenteeism-related matters.

The Supervisor also coordinates and directs contractors and university personnel in partnership with other operations leaders and may provide coverage for OPSMEP leadership when short-term staffing needs arise.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintaining work areas and equipment.
  • Attending meetings.
  • Ensuring documentation is completed accurately and properly.
  • Providing a high level of customer service.
  • Communicating effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors through written, electronic, and verbal methods.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Primarily works first shift, Monday through Friday.
  • Schedule, hours, days, shifts, and/or location may change based on operational needs.
  • Subject to 24-hour emergency call-in.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation is required, as appropriate.
  • In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17, this position is designated as essential personnel.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.

Desired Qualifications

  • 4-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with CMS and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Ohio State University systems, policies and procedures.
  • 1-2+ years of supervisory experience.
